Property Concerns Brought To Pottstown Borough Council

Pottstown >> Residents in the borough are turning to Pottstown Borough Council for help in addressing some of their concerns about real estate.

Tuesday night’s meeting featured six different residents who each spoke about different concerns ranging from problems on Upland Street, to a new borough ordinance that they fear could penalize homeowners in default on their mortgage.

“We the homeowners of Upland Street are coming here to borough council to express the concerns and pleas for assistance about investor purchases, rentals and subsidized housing here in Pottstown,” said one resident.

Upland Street residents, she said, are seeing a takeover of their street by Spring Hill Realty, which has been buying up properties across Pottstown and beyond.

Online Retailer Zulily To Open Hub In Bethlehem That Employs 1,200

Online retailer zulily plans to establish a distribution center in Bethlehem that will create 1,200 full-time jobs over the next three years, Gov. Tom Corbett announced today.

The hub is targeted for 10 Emery St., an 800,000-square-foot warehouse owned by Liberty Property Trust in Lehigh Valley Industrial Park VII — former Bethlehem Steel Corp. land off Route 412.

Corbett said in a news release that the building will serve as zulily’s Northeast fulfillment center and the company is making a multimillion-dollar investment there.

Fresh Start Planned For Blighted York City Building

A York City businessman plans to gut a blighted downtown building to make room for a future restaurant.

Elliott Weinstein, president and CEO of Weinstein Realty Advisors, will soon be the owner of 45 W. Market St., the former Griffith-Smith menswear store.

York City’s Redevelopment Authority gave the $2,000 sale the green light Wednesday. Technically, the sale is not final until the paperwork is signed and money exchanged.

Weinstein said he’s hoping to take advantage of York County’s Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance, or LERTA, program, which is designed to incentivize economic development by stretching property taxes on improvements over 10 years.

FedEx Exploring Millions In Tax Exemptions, Public Funds For Allen Township Megahub

FedEx has explored pursuing $25.3 million in tax exemptions for the massive distribution plant it is considering building in Allen Township.

The international shipping company has projected $2.53 million in annual tax breaks between 2017 and 2026 if a special tax zone is established on the 253 acres, according to company documents obtained by lehighvalleylive.com.

But those exemptions would require the creation of a Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance — or LERTA — zone, which would require approval from the township, county and Northampton Area School Board.

FedEx spokesman David Westrick declined to comment on the Allen Township proposal because the project is still only under consideration by the company.
