Police: Suspect Had Over 1,000 Heroin Packets, Hid Some In His Body

BUTLER TOWNSHIP, PA — What started as a traffic stop ended with a man facing drug charges after police found over 1,000 packets of heroin in his vehicle.

Some of those packets were found in his rectum.

Oliver E. Rivera, 22, of Drums, faces charges of possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police say they stopped a vehicle that Rivera was driving at 12:35 a.m. on June 10 for traffic violations. During the stop, police say they observed indicators of drug trafficking and discovered more than 1,000 packets of heroin in Rivera’s vehicle.

N.J. Men Arrested With 11,000 Packets Of Heroin On I-78 In Lehigh County, Police Say

Two New Jersey men were jailed Thursday after an early-morning traffic stop on Interstate 78 West in Upper Macungie Township yielded more than 11,000 packets of heroin, Pennsylvania State Police report.

Shaheed Adrius Minus, 36, of East Orange, was driving a rented 2014 Dodge Avenger at 85 mph when he was pulled over at mile marker 49.9 in the township after first coming to troopers’ attention at 2:59 a.m. at mile marker 53 in South Whitehall Township, court papers said.

Cops: Edwardsville Man Stashed 95 Heroin Packets In His Anus

KINGSTON, PA — A man from Edwardsville removed a plastic baggie allegedly containing 95 heroin packets from his anus because he wanted to be “honest” with police, according to charges filed.

Dwight Ahmah Moses, 35, of Green Street, was arraigned Thursday by District Judge Joseph Carmody in West Pittston on two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and one count each of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $50,000 bail.

Police stopped Moses on West Market Street at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after he failed to use turn signals when pulling away from the area of Schuyler Avenue. Police had watched Moses sitting in the car as a woman entered and exited within five minutes before the traffic stop, according to the criminal complaint.

UPDATED: Police Officer Injured In Pottstown Traffic Stop, Suspect Shot By Police After Chase

Pottstown, PA – A Lower Pottsgrove Township police officer was injured and a suspect was shot Thursday night after a traffic stop gone awry.

The officer was making the traffic stop on East High Street in the borough at approximately 8:45 p.m. when a male suspect driving a blue BMW sport utility vehicle did not yield to police signals. The pursuit began at East High Street and Heritage Drive and continued westbound into the 1400 block of High Street where the officers had gotten the vehicle cornered and stopped, according to Lower Pottsgrove Police Chief Michael Foltz.

The officer, whom police have not yet named, then got out of his car to approach the driver.The driver then allegedly hit the officer with the car and the officer began shooting at the vehicle, Foltz said.

Man Stopped On I-80 Found With 150 Bags Of Heroin In Rectum

An Altoona man had 150 bags of heroin stashed in his rectum and had to have the drugs removed at a hospital, according to state police at Hazleton.

Dennis L. Vanriper was a passenger in a vehicle that troopers stopped for several traffic violations on Interstate 80 west in Nescopeck Township at about 3 a.m. Friday, police said.

BUTLER TWP., PA— State police at Hazleton said they recovered 1,073 heroin packets in a plastic shopping bag stuffed under the driver’s seat of a vehicle stopped on state Route 309 early Tuesday morning.

Raheem Harris, 37, of East Orange, New Jersey, was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, false identification to law enforcement and driving without a license. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $50,000 bail.

Cops: Man Hands Them Pot At Sherman Hills, Leads Them On High-Speed Chase

WILKES-BARRE — A New Jersey man faces a slew of charges and bail of $250,000 after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase from the Sherman Hills apartment complex following a traffic stop.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on Bradley Ercel Burgess, of Bergin Avenue, Jersey City, New Jersey, just after 7 p.m. Wednesday near Coal Street and Logan Court and detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from Burgess’ vehicle, police said.

Police asked Burgess what he was doing in Sherman Hills, and he told them he was visiting a friend. When asked if he had any marijuana in the vehicle, Burgess allegedly handed an officer a cigar packet and stated that it contained a small bag of marijuana, police said.

A 28-year-old East Stroudsburg man is in jail on drug-dealing charges after allegedly trying to transport four bricks of heroin from New Jersey into the Poconos by hiding them in the engine compartment of a vehicle, police said.

Eric Logan is being held in Monroe County Prison under $50,000 bail on charges of possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal use of a communication facility.

Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charges

Three Philadelphia residents face drug charges after a state trooper stopped their speeding vehicle near Bear Creek and found heroin, marijuana and a loaded revolver, according to court records.

Anton Larry Bennett, 27, Malachi Bennett, 25, and Jamal Clark, 40, are accused of possessing $8,500 worth of heroin in addition to 22 bags of marijuana and the gun, troopers said.

According to a police affidavit, Trooper Mark Conrad was running a radar gun along Interstate 476 at the Bear Creek exit when he clocked a Chevrolet SUV speeding through a 45 mph work zone at 57 mph.

The SUV then quickly exited the interstate. The officer followed, conducting a traffic stop.

Two New York Residents Arrested After State Police Pull Over Vehicle In Plains Twp.

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, PA — A traffic stop made because of a vehicle following another too closely resulted in the discovery of 175 heroin packets and the arrests of two people from New York, state police at Wyoming said.

Lawanda Laquazar Slade, 33, of Brooklyn, and Chuckie Stevenson McDaniels, 39, of Uniondale, were arraigned Wednesday on two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count each of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal conspiracy and attempting to destroy evidence.  Slade was also charged with a traffic citation and McDaniels charged with escape, resisting arrest and providing false identification to law enforcement.

Police Nab 2 Suspected Drug Dealers In Columbia

Two suspected heroin dealers were arrested during an aggressive driver detail in Columbia on Friday, police said.

Columbia Borough police were conducting the detail on Route 30 East at the Route 441 overpass.

Officers stopped a silver 2012 Mazda sedan traveling 82 mph in a 55 mph zone, police said.  They discovered that Norristown police reported the vehicle as stolen on July 14.

Pottstown Man Arrested After Foot Chase

POTTSTOWN, PA — Residents in the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue may have been woken up by the sounds of police sirens and K-9 units early Tuesday morning after a traffic stop resulted in a foot chase.

Rickey Walker, 56, of Pottstown was the passenger in a tan Buick LaSabre that was stopped at 2:44 a.m. when borough police noticed the car had a broken taillight.

According to police, there were a large number of air fresheners in the car, which police said can be a common way to mask the odor of drugs.

Walker refused to give his name to police and ran east on Lincoln Avenue toward North Franklin Street while being pursued by officer Unruh and officer Sheehan from the borough police department, police said.
