Troopers Investigate String Of Break-Ins In Eastern Berks

State police at Reading are investigating a rash of burglaries in eight townships they cover in eastern Berks County.

In recent weeks there have been burglaries in Alsace, Ruscombmanor, Earl, Oley, Rockland, Pike, District and Hereford townships, Trooper David C. Beohm said.

Some occurred during daylight hours.

“People can help us by paying attention to their neighbors’ properties,” Beohm said.  “If they see a strange car in a neighbor’s driveway, give us a call and we’ll go out and check it out.

Lackawanna County DA Putting Stadium Scrap Metal Thieves ‘On Notice’

Wide-eyed burglars planning to steal scrap metal from the stadium at PNC Field may want to reconsider now that Lackawanna County District Attorney Andy Jarbola has vowed to throw the book at them.

“We want to put people on notice,” he said Tuesday.

Over the last several months, while crews have worked to partially demolish and now reconstruct the stadium, theft of metal hardware and scrap metal has been an ongoing problem.

The stadium has been vacant of its home team, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, while they play the current season entirely on the road to accommodate the renovations.

There is no substitute for hard work and common sense.  Some people try to take the easy way out by resorting to crime for a big payday.

Two men were apprehended by Scranton police after burglarizing several homes in the Hill Section of the city.  Police could see copper sticking out of a backpack in the car and were obtaining a search warrant.  The two men tried to elude police on foot but were captured in short order.

Two homes were burglarized and a third had the front door kicked in but the perpetrators left the scene before taking anything.
