Three Pop-Up Beer Gardens This Year From PHS

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Pop-Up Garden has been annual warm-weather hit – what with the transformation of a vacant lot into an urban oasis, complete with beer and great food.

Why not do three of them this year?

PHS plans to set up in new spots in East Passyunk and Logan Square and to return to 1438 South St., starting the first week of June. The closing date for each beer garden is October 1.

You Can Blame South Street For The New Miley Cyrus

Editor’s note:  I think there’s more blame to go around than South Street…just sayin’.

Miley Cyrus is naked on the cover of Rolling Stone, but you shouldn’t waste your energy focusing on that image because the content of the accompanying profile is far more interesting.

Rolling Stone‘s Josh Eels spent a significant amount of time with the polarizing pop star as she got “Rolling Stone” tattooed on the bottom of her feet, went out for sushi, and jumped out of a plane. But, really, the most compelling portions of the feature focus on Miley’s transition from Hannah Montana to the young woman who twerked all over MTV and America back in August.

She talks about her performance and how it’s helped her bond with another polarizing musician, Kanye West.

Way back when, Queen Village was the place to buy a house if you couldn’t afford Society Hill.

Joseph P. Fanelli Jr., who moved from the suburbs in 1985, readily acknowledges that Queen Village was his second choice.

“But looking at it today,” says Fanelli, president and CEO of Quaker City Manufacturing Co., the new townhouse in the 100 block of Catharine Street he bought 28 years ago for $175,000 “was a great buy.”

It was a lot of money in 1985, especially when you could buy what veteran real estate agent and Queen Village native Kathy Conway calls “a grandmom house” for $50,000.

Twenty years later, Fanelli sold the townhouse and its two secure parking spaces for $575,000. (He moved to a house on Bainbridge Street that his new wife, Katie, an IBM executive, bought when she transferred to Philadelphia.)

Former St. Peter’s Church South Street Vandalized

I read with great sadness that someone felt the need to break into the former St. Peter’s R.C. Church on South Street, vandalized the interior and tried to start a fire.  How low can you get, vandalizing a church!

I hope you are caught and punished to the fullest possible extent of the law!

Two thumbs down for this/these scumbag thug(s)!
