Food Trucks, Beer Bring Crowd To Sly Fox Brewery In Pottstown

POTTSTOWN, PA — The parking lot in front of the Sly Fox Brewery and Tasting Room was transformed into a laid-back party scene Saturday during the Taps, Tunes and Trucks event.

The first ever combination event was the brain child of John Giannopoulis, who teamed up with representatives from the ODDyssey Half Marathon, which organized the preceding 5K race.

“(We) wanted to do a race out at the brewery and we were also talking about having a food truck event so we tied the two events together,” he said. “It’s about beer, food, running and music.”

While relaxing after the run, several teams of two lined up to play a larger-than-life version of beer pong that used trash cans painted red instead of cups and soccer balls instead of ping pong balls.

Food Trucks Are Cookin’ In Suburbs Now, Too

Editor’s note:  Nice mention of Pottstown‘s own George Bieber by the Inquirer!

“Honestly, when I started, I was thinking I would be in the city a lot, but now we’re hardly ever there,” said George Bieber, a Pottstown restaurateur who started Sunflower Truck Stop in August.

Bieber, whose truck offers gourmet sandwiches such as Green Curry Bacon BLT, Crab and Artichoke Grilled Cheese, and Sweet Potato Quesadilla, recalled that in one town, two older permitting officials eyeballed his rig as if it had landed from Mars.

“They saw that it was not just a hot dog truck, it was something different,” said Bieber, who ultimately was invited by the officials to park at the town’s Community Day.

Last year, Montgomery County licensed 76 mobile food vendors.

Pottstown’s Sunflower Truck Stop Cooks ‘Live With Kelly And Michael’

POTTSTOWN — Shorty’s Sunflower Cafe owner George Bieber and his Sunflower Truck Stop were cooking in the Big Apple on Friday.  It was all part of a contest being run by ABC’s “Live with Kelly and Michael” — the Truckin’ Amazing Cookoff.

In May, Ripa and Strahan announced their first-ever summer search for the nation’s best food truck.  “LIVE’s” viewers nominated their favorite food-on-the-go, and on Friday, May 17, the hosts announced the top 20 as selected by the “LIVE” production team.

Bieber and the Sunflower Truck Stop were among the top 20.

As soon as the show ended, viewers were encouraged to go to the “LIVE” website, watch videos submitted by the chefs, and cast their votes for the top 10.
