Montgomery County Studio Tour!! In Pottstown!!!

The first Montgomery County Studio Tour will take place on Saturday June 10, 2017 from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday June 11, 2017 from 11 AM to 5 PM.

The Montgomery County Studio Tour was created to promote regional artists and contribute to the cultural vitality of Montgomery County, by presenting original and diverse artwork in creative working studio settings.  54 artists in different mediums such as painting, sculpture, jewelry, photography, clay, glass, paper and fiber will showcase their work in 20 studios across Montgomery County.  Many studios on the Tour will feature works-in-progress and artist demonstrations.

We invite art enthusiasts and the curious to experience a rare glimpse into the variety of outstanding art of Montgomery County as these professional artists exhibit their work during this unique and intimate two-day event.  All of the artists will be on hand to talk about their work and meet buyers and browsers alike.  Whether this is your first time buying art or you are a seasoned collector, this tour has something for everyone, in a wide range of mediums and prices.

Visitors are encouraged to design their own self-guided tour with the catalogue and map, which can be downloaded from www.MontgomeryCountyStudioTour.com. You can start with the studio closest to you, or anywhere you like, by using the convenient map and website.

We are continuing the “County Collector Series” well-known from the Chester County Studio Tour.  This is an opportunity to collect an original framed 6” x 6” piece of art for the special pricing of $75.  Our two-dimensional artists have created an original work of art in a simple and elegant 6” x 6” frame, and our three-dimensional artists have also created special pieces for this Collector Series.  A photo of each work in this series is included in our catalogue and may also be seen on the website.

This first Montgomery County Studio Tour was created by Jeff Schaller, painter and tour organizer, on the same model as his well received and extremely successful Chester County Studio Tour, which is in its 8th year.

Free and open to the public.  Please visit website www.montgomerycountystudiotour.com for map, artists and studio listings and for catalogue.  Handicapped accessible studios are marked on the studio pages in the catalogue and on the website. Please email info@countystudiotour.com or call 610.942.9629 for further information.

Centre Park Rolls Out Welcome Mats For Christmas House Tour

Reading, PA – Doug and Dia Fell were decorating their home for the holidays last week. Some lights and garlands to highlight the staircase, a few of the long-used holiday ornaments from years past here and there and, of course, the festooned tree in the living room.

“It’s the usual stuff, nothing special,” Dia said, sounding calm and collected even though she’s expecting a throng of visitors this weekend.
She’s going to let the house speak for itself.

The Fell’s home in the 300 block of Douglass Street is one of the many scheduled stops on the self-guided tour of private residences and other buildings in the Centre Park Historic District.

The 29th Christmas House Tour and Champagne Brunch, to be held Sunday, is a major annual fundraiser for the preservation group in the city neighborhood of homes, many of which are more than a century old, surrounding the park in the 700 block of Centre Avenue.

Come for the flowers – stay for the food.

There will be plenty of both at Saturday’s Gourmet Garden Tour in the Centre Park Historic District, the 20th annual event where residents of the Victorian-era neighborhood let visitors explore their normally secret gardens.

But for ticket holders to Saturday evening’s self-guided tour, the addition of food, spirits and musicians might make the tour feel more like a neighborhood-wide garden party.

Five homes and two businesses, with properties ranging from twins to freestanding mansions, are slated to take part in Saturday’s event.

Sunday Is Rare Opportunity To Drive Through Wilderness Near Harrisburg

It’s not often that Lancaster countians are offered the opportunity to drive through a wilderness area surrounded by wildlife, steep mountains and autumn colors only an hour away.

And for two of the last three years bad weather has washed out the popular one-day-a-year, self-guided driving tour on an old railroad bed through the haunting and beautiful Stony Creek Valley, a mere 16 miles north of Harrisburg.

But repairs have been made and unless another freakish storm blows through, the best Sunday drive around will take place on State Game Lands 211 in Dauphin and Lebanon counties on Sunday.

For one day only, the Pennsylvania Game Commission opens its gates to public vehicles, allowing the public a one-way leisurely drive for 17 miles through the heart of this heavily wooded narrow valley that traces lovely Stony Creek.
