Montco Urged To Sell Nursing Care Complex For $39M

NORRISTOWN, PA — A “working group” of senior county staff is recommending the sale of Montgomery County’s Parkhouse Providence Pointe nursing care complex to a Maryland-based company.

While no action has yet been taken regarding the proposed Parkhouse transaction, the Montgomery County commissioners are entertaining the idea of selling the facility to a private firm, Mid-Atlantic Health Care LLC, for $39 million.

The nine-member working group is composed of senior staff from the Department of Aging and Adult Services, the county planning commission and Parkhouse Providence Pointe administrators. Of 10 respondents, all members of the group vouched Tuesday for Mid-Atlantic as the outstanding applicant to the request for proposals the county issued in June.

As part of an overall review of all county enterprises, about 200 acres of land at Parkhouse near Royersford could be put on the block. This sale, however, would exclude the newly-zoned open space across from Route 113, the home to more than 1,700 unmarked graves, some dating back to the early part of the 19th century.

The 13 Worst Commutes Around Philadelphia

Map of Pennsylvania highlighting Montgomery County

Editor’s note:  The only thing I would add is that I might start this at Royersford or Collegeville.  However, I don’t miss that drive after doing it for almost 20 years!

Commuters who drive on Interstate 676 between I-95 and I-76 or on state Route 611 between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-95 during rush hour spend 125 hours a year sitting in traffic.

Those are the worst commutes in the region, according to a new report from TRIP, a transportation research group backed by advocates for highway improvements.

Besides the lost hours due to congestion, drivers on those stretches of I-676 and Route 611 also waste 54 gallons of gas per year, TRIP’s report found. Here are the routes the organization says are the worst commutes in the Philadelphia region, based on time and fuel lost due to traffic congestion during peak hours:

3. U.S. Route 422 from U.S. 202 to Egypt Road in Montgomery County:  Drivers lose 67 hours and 29 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 64,000 to 83,000 daily drivers

SKIPPACK TOWNSHIP, PA — A 16-year-old reportedly stabbed his 17-year-old girlfriend to death while breaking up with her Saturday night on the Skippack Trail near Palmer Park.

Tristan Brian Arthur Stahley stabbed Julianne Siller multiple times before hiding her body in the woods off the trail, according to an affidavit filed by the state police in Skippack and the Montgomery County Detectives.

Siller, of Royersford, had been going out with Stahley “off and on” since January, the affidavit said.

Stahley, of Skippack, was arrested Saturday night and charged with murder of the first degree, murder of the third degree and criminal possession of a weapon, court documents said.

A Skippack teen has been charged with stabbing to death his 17-year-old girlfriend in a wooded area of the Skippack Trail Saturday night.

Tristan Stahley, 16, was arraigned Sunday on charges including first degree murder in the death of Julianne Siller, said Kevin Steele, the Montgomery County first assistant district attorney.

According to court documents, Stahley and the victim, Siller, a high school senior who lived in Royersford, were at Stahley’s home on Rittenhouse Lane Saturday when Stahley’s mother overheard the pair arguing.

Soon after – and apparently reconciled – they left the house and drove in Siller’s car to nearby Palmer Park in Skippack Township, where they argued again as they walked along the trail.

SPRING-FORD YOUTH COMMUNITY THEATER TO PRESENT THE LARAMIE PROJECT

High School Students Tackle Controversial Play

Spring-Ford Youth Community Theater to Present The Laramie Project

ROYERSFORD, PA  – Spring-Ford Youth Community Theater is proud to present The Laramie Project by Moisés Kaufman and the members of Tectonic Theater Project at the Spring-Ford 8th Grade Center located at 700 Washington Street, Royersford, PA 19468. Performances run Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, May 3rd through the 12th.  Curtain is a 7:30 p.m.

The cast is made up of high school students in grades 10 through 12.  Spring-Ford Youth Community Theater President, Bonnie Fetteroff, directs.  Laramie is the capstone production for the group’s 2011-2012 season, its 14th.

The extensive research that would ultimately become The Laramie Project began in November 1998, one month after Matthew Shepard, a young, openly gay man, was abducted, brutally beaten, tied to a fence and left to die on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming.  Over the course of eighteen months, the writers traveled to Laramie six times and conducted over 200 interviews with its residents to document the community’s views on homosexuality, their reaction to the crime itself as well as to the fact that the perpetrators were two local youth.

The New York Times hailed The Laramie Project as an “. . . enormously good-willed, very earnest and often deeply moving work of theatrical journalism . . .” and Curtain Up called it “. . . a play of forceful but never showy dramatic impact, its seriousness leavened with laughter”.

The Laramie Project asks the audience to call into question the beliefs and values that form the very foundation of modern society: faith, trust, tolerance, forgiveness, community, and the desire for truth.

Please Note: Due to adult themes and language, this production is only suitable for mature audiences.

Tickets for The Laramie Project are available at the door at a price of $10, advanced tickets are available for $6 from any cast member or by emailing tickets@sfyct.org.
