Boscov’s To remodel Wilkes-Barre Store To Tune Of $1 Million; Work To Start In 2 Weeks

WILKES-BARRE, PA — Al Boscov said Tuesday that the long-awaited million-dollar renovation of the downtown store will begin in two weeks.

“We’ve had a slight change in design, and that’s the reason for the delay in starting,” Boscov said. “The project will begin on the third floor and the estimate remains at $1 million.”

It’s been one year since Boscov announced the plan to remodel the South Main Street store and customers and employees have been anticipating the project.

Last March, Gary Boyer, Boscov’s senior executive vice president/chief stores officer, said carpeting was going to be installed within a month, but the project never started. Boyer also said shoppers could expect to see brighter lights, new carpeting and flooring, freshly painted walls, some new features, expanded departments and maybe a few new shops.

Plans To Transform Underperforming Burlington Mall

Over the next two to three months, officials in Burlington Township will be getting architectural and civil engineering drawings of what the new Marketplace at Burlington – formerly Burlington Center Mall – will look like, as well as a count of the traffic it is hoped it will generate.

By mid-spring of next year, owner Moonbeam Capital Investments L.L.C. of Las Vegas says, groundbreaking will begin to convert the underperforming mall into a must-see destination off Exit 47A of I-295 for shopping, dining, and entertainment.

If all goes as planned, the $230 million-plus phased conversion will also include manicured green spaces with benches and fountains that seamlessly tie a traditional mall with an open-air town center.

The full build-out is expected to take from two to three years and will be done in stages. The mall will stay open the entire time.

Dingy LaGuardia Airport To Undergo $3.6 Billion Makeover

NEW YORK — Dark, dingy, cramped and sad. These are some of the ways travelers describe LaGuardia Airport, a bustling hub often ranked in customer satisfaction surveys as the worst in America.

“It does not represent what people think of when they think of New York and Broadway shows and glamour. It’s not very pretty,” said Layla House, a sales manager for a medical supply company who travels from her home in Bullard, Texas, to New York at least six times a year.

That’s about to change.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently announced the state is taking control of an ambitious $3.6 billion construction project that envisions a new central terminal at LaGuardia, with vast open spaces, restaurants, shopping plazas, new parking garages, free Wi-Fi and other amenities now common in other airports. Cuomo wants to develop a plan to upgrade cargo operations at nearby John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Historic Lititz Inn Gets A Remodel With Help From Local Music Industry Firms

Editor’s note:  What many people do not realize is that Lititz is the home of three companies that are legendary in the music business.  Clair Global, Atomic Design and Tait Towers.  These three companies are sound, scenery/lighting and staging giants.  This is a great example of a win-win collaboration for everyone involved and a project that provides continued economic development for downtown Lititz.

A beer, a brainstorm and a boost for downtown Lititz.

About nine months ago, local executive Soren West was having a beer at the Bulls Head pub in the General Sutter Inn with Paul Pendyck, a partner in the inn.

The conversation turned to Pendyck’s vision for the pub and inn, two valuable parts of downtown Lititz’s economy and social scene.

Pendyck said he wanted to renovate the inn’s 16 guest rooms, including its little-used top floor, except that the undertaking was too expensive.

Former Taco Bell In Pottstown Gets Major Gut And Remodel

I don’t know what is going in here…I did hear rumors but I am not spreading them any further.  However, it does appear that something is going in here with all the work that is being done.

As you can see a big chunk of the roof is missing, all the windows have been removed etc…  There is a huge dumpster being filled up and a lot of digging going on as well.

I am glad to see that something is finally going in here!

Luzerne County Courthouse Getting Extreme Makeover

The Luzerne County Courthouse in Wilkes-Barre is a large and visually stunning building.  The courthouse was constructed a century ago and is in need of some work; $5.2 million worth of work, to be exact.  However, don’t expect anyone to yell “move that bus” when the job is done!

Stairs are being removed for a new support system to be installed, the waterproof coating is being replaced which entails scrapping off ALL the old coating first, exterior stone is being cleaned, repaired and repointing and the five domes will be repainted a new color.  Historians believe gray was the original color of the domes when the courthouse was constructed.

New flashing is being installed and the building’s stained glass windows are being removed, cleaned and releaded.  The old window frames are being replaced because they are rotting.

The original date for completion was October, but with all the rain we had this spring that date will most likely be pushed back.
