Man Gets 17 3/4 To 44 Years In Prison For Killing Pittsburgh Police Dog

The man who fatally stabbed a Pittsburgh police dog will spend 17 ³⁄₄ to 44 years in prison, an Allegheny County judge ruled Tuesday.

John Rush, 22, of Stowe, said nothing as sheriff’s deputies led him back to his holding cell in handcuffs and shackles.

Rocco’s handler, Officer Phil Lerza, said he was “happy” with sentence.

“I lost my partner from this and he was also a family member,” Lerza told the judge. “I lost a family member that day.”

Heroin Destined For Poconos Found In Car Engine

A 28-year-old East Stroudsburg man is in jail on drug-dealing charges after allegedly trying to transport four bricks of heroin from New Jersey into the Poconos by hiding them in the engine compartment of a vehicle, police said.

Eric Logan is being held in Monroe County Prison under $50,000 bail on charges of possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal use of a communication facility.
