The mother of a woman slain in Northampton County Sunday remembered the time her daughter helped deliver a baby goat about two years ago on the family farm in Hunlock Creek.

“The goat needed help and, as gross as it was, she reached in saved that animal,” said Elaine Smith, who lives in Nanticoke.

Amanda Stratford, 28, of Wilkes-Barre and Nanticoke, was found dead around 11:30 Sunday night in a pickup truck in Easton. The Northampton County coroner ruled her death a homicide after she was shot multiple times.

Smith and her husband did not get word of her death until Wednesday when the coroner called. Unanswered questions swirl around the woman’s death. Run-ins with the county judicial system speckled her past, and Easton police say her death was drug-related. Smith knows her daughter had trouble with the law years ago, but she said things seemed to be on the upswing.

Easton police are investigating the killing of a woman found dead in a green pickup truck Sunday night.

Authorities have not released the woman’s name or details about the homicide, but have said the victim was shot.

The woman was found about 11:30 p.m. inside the cab of a pickup truck parked in the 100 block of South Peach Street, an alley between South 13th and South 14th streets that runs parallel to Ferry Street.

Police said they also are withholding information about how many times the woman was shot, but police said they received reports of gunshots being fired in the neighborhood prior to receiving a report of an unresponsive woman in a pickup truck.

A Chester County man who stole a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer during a high-speed pursuit on the Pennsylvania Turnpike faces numerous charges, troopers said Friday.

Matthew Malory, 28, of Downingtown led police on a wild chase from Lancaster Countyto Chester County, police said.  On two occasions, troopers fired shots at the rig to stop its progress.

The pursuit occurred partly during a thunderstorm and led to a six-hour traffic tie-up on the turnpike.

Police said Malory is being treated at Paoli Hospital for broken ribs suffered when he crashed the pickup near Morgantown.  He later used the stolen rig to ram other vehicles out of the way before crashing in Chester County.
