But believe it or not, we are already planning for our best GARDEN season yet!

Pretty soon, we will trade in our snow gloves for gardening gloves, so GET READY!

Community Garden Member Applications are NOW being Accepted!

We are now accepting applications for the 2016 growing season!  Everyone is welcome to join us this season at the Mosaic Community Gardens – a safe place for the entire family to grow, learn, share and play!

For your annual one-time contribution, Mosaic will supply all of the tools, seeds, plants, dirt and water you need to grow yourself a fantastic garden!  The first planting weekend is set for Saturday, May 14 – 15.  We will prepare to plant, dig-in and enjoy ourselves the entire weekend!  All are welcome to put down some roots with MOSAIC!

TEENAGERS WELCOME!

Beginning February 18, from 6 to 8 PM, MOSAIC will partner with ArtFusion, STRIVE, Olivet Boys and Girls Club to present My Voice, a 12-week program for teens. Healthy meal preps, art journaling, music and theatre workshops will be provided. Through fun, interactive experiences, My Voice will increase the involvement of young people in their community by asking them to visually articulate their ideal community, resulting in a visual art canvas, short film and relevant artistic renditions that define and embody the voice of young peoples’ dreams for Pottstown. This program is graciously sponsored in part by Olivet Boys and Girls Club.

On the 18th, an information session will be held prior to the workshop for parents and youth alike.  A warm meal will be prepared and served by the entire group!

Kids Day A FREE Community Event Hosted By Olivet Boys & Girls Club

The Olivet Boys & Girls Club is hosting a free event at their Pottstown Unit, the Richard J. Ricketts Center, located at 658 Beach Street in Pottstown, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 26. The purpose is to strengthen relationships between the Club, partners and the Pottstown community, in addition to celebrating and supporting our kids. The best way to do that is to invite the community into the Club. The event will include food, games and entertainment. Pottstown School District staff, students and parents, along with community members and community partners, will be invited.

Pottstown Council Mulls New Ricketts Center Lease

POTTSTOWN — Borough council may approve a new lease with the Olivet Boys and Girls Club to use the Ricketts Center that would include borough-funded replacement of the roof and upgrading the heating/air-conditioning system.

Currently, council is considering a five-year lease agreement that would begin in September and extend to Dec. 31, 2019.

“During that time, the borough obligation would be to continue to fund the Ricketts Center at its present level of funding, which is $40,000 a year,” Borough Solicitor Charles D. Garner Jr. said at Wednesday night’s committee of the whole meeting of council. “That’s obviously a whole lot less than what the borough was spending on the Ricketts Center 10 years ago.”

Garner said the “success of the Olivets has helped significantly in running the programs and relieve the borough of some of that financial obligation” in parks and recreation. Programs have also grown over the five years the Olivet Boys and Girls Club has run the center, according to Garner.

Warm Bodies, Warm Hearts

Jahlil Acosta, 11, of Reading likes to be outside and play tag, ride his bike or even enjoy the snow.

And he doesn’t mind being warm when he does it.

“I like the black and tan coat, it’s my favorite color,” he said after standing in front of a selection of hooded coats ranging in colors from pink and red to peach and robin’s egg blue.

To keep away winter’s chill, Jahlil and his friend Jubriell Santos, 10, of Reading were among the first children Thursday at the Oakbrook Unit of the Olivet Boys & Girls Club to have their pick of puffy outerwear from a selection of coats of many colors, not one of them used.
