To Stay Open, Hotel Brunswick Must Meet 21 Conditions

It’s time for the Hotel Brunswick in downtown Lancaster to clean up its act, according to a judge’s order signed this morning.

Lancaster County Judge Jeffery Wright approved a series of agreements between the city and hotel owners that would essentially clean up numerous ongoing issues at 151 N. Queen St.

Wright ordered that 21 specific improvements be made or ownership risks a future court hearing that could shutter the hotel, deemed a “nuisance” last year.

The city and district attorney’s office each filed complaints last year alleging the hotel as a site of drug use, brawls and underage drinking.

‘Nuisance’ Snow Deposits About Half-Inch Across Lancaster County

Officially, winter doesn’t begin until Dec. 21.

But Lancaster County got a small taste of it Tuesday.

On average, about a half inch of snow coated Lancaster County during a morning snowstorm, according to the National Weather Service.

Higher elevations in the county’s northern half saw a little bit more.

Officials Look To Shutter Lancaster City Hotel

Lancaster city officials are seeking to have the Hotel Brunswick shut down on the grounds that it is a nuisance.

The city filed a complaint in Lancaster County Court Monday laying out its case, citing numerous police calls, code violations and failure to pay taxes.

Also on Monday, a county judge granted a separate request by city and county officials to temporarily halt the sale of alcohol at the hotel.

“The premises as currently being operated and maintained has become a public nuisance,” Mayor Rick Gray said Monday. “We have an obligation to the residents of the City of Lancaster and visitors to the city.”
