NEW YORK ( MainStreet) At 78 million strong, baby boomers usually get what they want as consumer.
That’s how we got the Ford Mustang, lite beer, granite countertops and video on demand. The younger half of the boomers famously said, “I want my MTV” and they got it.
So when boomers start saying they’re tired of “going big” on everything from cheeseburgers to McMansions, businesses better begin paying close attention, and that’s exactly what the generation born between 1946 to 1964 is saying now. It’s a downsizing world they want, and they’re going to get it, but not without the amenities and comforts the materialistic boomers are famous for.
“Those baby boomers who worked hard for and embraced the affluent lifestyle of the 1970s through the middle of the last decade owning large homes and spacious vehicles have reached a turning point,” says Sheryl Connelly, global consumer trends and a “futurist” for Ford. “This generation is now trending toward a simpler way of living, one that doesn’t eliminate the lavish comforts they’ve come to enjoy.

Britney Spears said she’s being pushed into making videos that are too sexy, according to TMZ.
Spears talked about her video for the new single “Work (expletive)” during a Thursday morning interview on the TJ Show on AM 103.3.
“A lot of sex goes into what I do,” she said. “But sometimes I would like to bring it back to the old days, when there was like one outfit through the whole video, and you’re dancing the whole video, and there’s like not that much sex stuff going on.”
When wasn’t there “that much sex stuff going on” in a Britney Spears video? Which old days were those, exactly?
Editor’s note: I think there’s more blame to go around than South Street…just sayin’.
Miley Cyrus is naked on the cover of Rolling Stone, but you shouldn’t waste your energy focusing on that image because the content of the accompanying profile is far more interesting.
Rolling Stone‘s Josh Eels spent a significant amount of time with the polarizing pop star as she got “Rolling Stone” tattooed on the bottom of her feet, went out for sushi, and jumped out of a plane. But, really, the most compelling portions of the feature focus on Miley’s transition from Hannah Montana to the young woman who twerked all over MTV and America back in August.
She talks about her performance and how it’s helped her bond with another polarizing musician, Kanye West.
Editor’s note: This is priceless and really says something. Miley needs an intervention. You gotta check out the picture!
Well it seems as if we weren’t the only ones completely dumbfounded by Miley Cyrus’ performance at Sunday evening’s Video Music Awards.
The pop star twerked, she gyrated, slapped a butt, and uncomfortably paraded around teddy bears during her risque number alongside Robin Thicke, even using a foam hand as a sexual prop – all while wearing a plastic bikini. Oh, and she sang, too.

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. – Britain’s Prince Harry toured two New Jersey shore communities devastated six months ago by Superstorm Sandy, viewing some of the damage that remains but also walking on a rebuilt boardwalk and shaking hands with construction workers who have been racing to get the resort towns ready for the summer.
In Seaside Heights, where the MTV reality show “Jersey Shore” was taped, he walked down the rebuilt boardwalk with Gov. Chris Christie and both took part in a game of chance, throwing perforated plastic balls into holes for stuffed animal prizes, which they handed over to children.
The two came within sight of a roller coaster that the storm sent plunging into the Atlantic Ocean and which became a defining image of the storm that struck in late October. A crane was in place to begin demolition of the amusement ride.
In both Seaside Heights and Mantoloking 10 miles north, his first stop, the prince shook hands with police, fire and other emergency personnel. Harry also greeted construction workers who have been working on rebuilding Seaside Heights’ famous boardwalk, now about two-thirds complete.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – A New Jersey lawmaker wants towns to have a say in the filming of reality TV shows within their boundaries before a Situation develops.
Ocean County Republican Assemblyman Ronald Dancer on Monday introduced legislation for a Snookiville Law. The law would let towns impose conditions including requiring TV crews to pay for additional police officers to assure public safety during filming.
August 30, 2012 (TheWrap.com) – MTV is ending the fist-pumping cultural phenomenon “Jersey Shore,” the network says.
The decision comes amid skyrocketing salaries for the cast of former unknowns that have made MTV’s most successful series increasingly expensive to produce. MTV said “Jersey Shore” will end after its sixth season, which premieres Oct. 4.
MTV will commemorate the end of the show with farewell programming beginning next Thursday, with a one-hour retrospective called “Gym, Tan, Look Back” that will air before MTV’s Video Music Awards.
The series, which has followed a group of self-proclaimed “guidos” and “guidettes” from the Jersey Shore to Italy, has popularized such phrases as “grenade” (an unattractive person), “smush” (have sex with) and “GTL” (gym, tan, laundry).
A minor traffic accident involving a Jackassstar turned surreal at times Thursday in Chester County when the driver at fault reportedly became giddy when he recognized the other motorist.
State police said MTV star Brandon “Bam” Margera was “stopped at a properly posted stop sign” at 1:48 p.m. on southbound Locust Grove Road at Corrine Road in Pocopson Township, close to his home. An unidentified driver of a Ford pickup who was turning onto Locust Grove sideswiped Margera’s 2011 Porsche Panamera, police said.
Reality “star” Snooki Polizzi of Jersey Shore fame was chastised by a judge, fined $500 and given two days of community service for creating a scene on the beach. On July 30th an intoxicated Snooki ventured onto the beach, drew a crowd (shock) and disturbed sunbathers by being loud, obnoxious and tripped over people.
Snooki stated her “performance” was not scripted when asked by the judge if this was part of the show.
Snooki left a credit card behind in her haste to leave the courtroom. An employee ran after her with it.
Snooki got in further hot water when she tweeted about Newark traffic and the Mayor of Newark threatened her with a ticket for texting and driving. Home girl can’t get a break no how.
A day in the life of a girl from Poughkeepsie…sigh
Snooki was arrested in Seaside Heights for disorderly conduct this afternoon. Of course, the MTV cameras were there to capture the action! Look for footage in an upcoming episode of Jersey Shore.
Snooki was publically intoxicated (say it isn’t so) and was arrested by two officers…cuffs and all. She was looking might disheveled and wearing a shirt that said SLUT as her sun glasses were sliding off her face. The pictures are mighty unflattering!
I thought they were banned for life after filming Season 1? Now they are back filming Season 3!
“The Situtation”, “Snooki” and “DJ Pauly D” paid a visit to the ladies on The View on Tuesday. The panel was divided….two for, two against. Elisabeth Hasselbeck wore an “I heart the Situation” tee- shirt, Sherri Shepherd dressed like Snooki, complete with hair bump, while Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar were clearly not feeling the love. Especially Joy (talk about being misnamed).
“The Situation” had nicknames for the panel….Whoopi is “The Administration, Joy is “The Assumption”, Elisabeth is “The Attraction” and Sherri was “The Duplication” since she was rockin’ the Snooki hair bump. The ladies liked their nicknames.
Joy went right after Snooki by making the statement they were all not Italian Americans however, Snooki is part Sicilian, although mostly Chilean. JWOW is evidently not Italian American either. Joy got in some other digs about the all the sex on the show and asked if they use condoms etc… She was her usual snarky self.
Snooki got a big laugh when she was asked when she realized she was famous….the answer was “pretty much at birth”…..DJ Pauly D was asked if he was surprised by the fame and was he still working. He responded “yes, I’m still DJing but now my rate went up” which got another huge laugh from the audience. “The Situation” refused to show his abs despite coaxing from the ladies. He said he didn’t want to cheapen “the brand”…
Whoopi asked the cast what their long-range goals are…”The Situation” said he would like to try acting. They all said they are saving their money. Snooki stated her father handles her money.
All in all the interview was fun, despite Joy “The Assumption’s” “tude”.
Evidently everybody loves them some Snooki. Vera Wang’s models have been sporting “poofs” ala Snooki from Jersey Shore on the runway as of late. I guess the “Guidette” look may become as fashion statement!
Very interesting interview (Meredith Viera) with six of the major players from MTV’s Jersey Shore on the Today Show. Yes, they are young, like to party and have fun. However, JWOWW, has two bachelor’s degrees and Vinnie graduated from college and is getting ready to take his LSTAT (Law School Administration Test)…
The may have gel in their hair and a fake tan, but don’t jump to the conclusion they have empty heads. Love ’em or hate ’em… JerseyShore returns for season two and filming starts in the next month!
Looks like Snooki and company held out just long enough. The season one cast have all been signed to appear in season two of MTV’s reality series Jersey Shore for $10,000.00 per episode. The season finale attracted 4.8 million viewers which gave the cast some additional leverage.
Kanye West’s behavior at the MTV VMAs last night was disgraceful. He is nothing more than a bully. I understand that Beyonce was very gracious to Taylor Swift later in the broadcast. Kudos to Beyonce for acting like a lady!
There needs to be some consequences for Kanye and his crappy behavior! Stop buying his records for starters if MTV or somebody doesn’t punish him for that outburst. That incident should not be swept under the rug!
