Another meeting with Assistant D.A.’s Kevin Steele and Jason Whalley is set up for June 1st, Pottstown Borough Hall, 100 E. High Street, 3rd floor at 7PM

THE LAST TURN OUT WAS FANTASTIC.  LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN AGAIN.

Hopefully we will have another great turnout with an active audience.

I would really like to focus in on additional things that the DA/PPD can be doing to help the residents with their efforts.

• A willingness to pursue property forfeiture (landlords renting to drug dealers and other criminals in Pottstown)

• A standardized form for recording and reporting suspicious/criminal activity if there are any other items that you are aware of or that any people that you have been speaking to think we should be pushing for, please comment or message us.

This is a form that we think could be a good choice for Pottstown. When details matter there needs to be a good reporting method for crime.

Montco Invites Public To Come Hear About The Exciting Future Of Transit In Montgomery County

Norristown, PA – Montgomery County, in partnership with SEPTA, Greater Valley Forge Transportation Management Association, The Partnership TMA, and TransNet, is presenting “Your Transit Dollars at Work” on Thursday, April 16, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the Whitemarsh Township building, 616 Germantown Pike, Lafayette Hill.

The event will focus on the exciting future of transit in Montgomery County. Representatives from the Montgomery County Planning Commission, SEPTA, and local transportation management associations will be on hand to present information, answer questions, and listen to comments.

Participants will have an opportunity to learn about SEPTA’s draft capital plan with station improvements and system upgrades, current commuting alternatives, and Montco’s plan for the future as highlighted in Montco 2040: A Shared Vision, Montgomery County’s nationally awarded new comprehensive plan.

The public is invited to participate and see the impressive vision plan for transit in Montgomery County and to discover what new transit funding is doing for county citizens. Borough Of Pottstown & Pottstown School District Joint Meeting On Fair Funding For Schools

Join us at a joint meeting of the Pottstown School Board and Borough Council on Thursday, January 29th, 7:00 pm at Rupert Elementary School. Mr. Larry Feinberg, a member of the State Circuit Riders team, will talk and answer questions about what is being done to bring fair funding to public education. Hear what your elected officials from both the School Board and the Borough have to say about the issues. Before the meeting, a tour of Rupert will be given at 6:30 pm. Meet With The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office

First Assistant District Attorney, Kevin Steele, has responded to a request from a Pottstown resident/businessman to meet with the community regarding the problems of drug dealers and drug houses. This will be an opportunity to engage the District Attorney’s office and to ask questions about how they can work with us to reduce crime.

We will be meeting with Asst. D.A. Jason Whalley.

Because of the importance of this meeting we want thoughtful participation by residents who will take time to familiarize themselves with the PA Drug Nuisance Law and ask relevant questions.

This is NOT a meeting to “bash” law enforcement or dwell on personal experiences.

We are working to build a connection based on trust and communication between the community, the D.A.’s office and local law enforcement.

Citizens Action Committee For Pottstown To Give Presentation To Borough Council And Codes, February 20th

The Citizens Action Committee will be giving a presentation to Pottstown Borough Council and the codes and infrastructure departments about a wonderful program that has been implemented in sections of Utah and has proven success in reducing crime and blight in communities, holding landlords accountable, and spurring community revitalization and positive growth.  The program is called The Good Landlord Program, some basic details of it are linked below.  Please make every effort to attend this meeting and show your support of bettering YOUR town! Ears are opening at council and we need to make out presence and interest known!

The presentation will be delivered THIS THURSDAY, February 20th at the Codes/Infrastructure meeting at 5:30 p.m. at Borough Hall.  Take an interest and be part of the solution!

TriCounty Community Network Hosts Rethink Homelessness Community Forum

TriCounty Community Network’s (TCN) Homeless Services Program, consisting of 40 local organizations, is hosting a Rethink Homelessness Community Forum on Thursday, February 9.  The goal of the forum is to provide an opportunity for discussion about homelessness, how we define homelessness, and how we are addressing homelessness as a community. 

The keynote speaker will be Will O’Brien, Special Projects Coordinator at Project H.O.M.E., a non-profit providing housing and services to chronically homeless men and women in Philadelphia and empowering them to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty.  He will be introduced by Rev. Marvin Marsh of Pottstown First Baptist Church.  The program will also include stories from homeless individuals and volunteers, as well as educational information and a Q&A session.       

TCN is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, membership-based organization that partners with nonprofits, businesses and community members to improve health, social and environmental conditions.  Serving Western Montgomery, Northern Chester and Eastern Berks counties in Pennsylvania, TCN offers seven key programs: Build Up Youth, C.A.R.E. North Hall:  Ten years after opening its doors in Pottstown, the College’s West Campus expanded to a historical site commonly referred to as the “former Vaughan Knitting Mill” at 16 High Street. The facility, which was renovated to historically-correct standards under the National Parks Service, opened its doors to students on January 18, 2006.

Citizen Participation Meeting

The Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Development invites local citizens to attend a Citizen Participation Meeting to be held Tuesday, February 8th, 2011 at 6:00 p.m., at the Montgomery County Community College, West Campus, 101 College Drive, (Conference Room 221), South Hall, Pottstown, PA. The meeting will allow citizens a time to present and discuss projects for which your municipality may apply for in the FY 2011 Community Development Block Grant (CBDG) Program, Emergency Shelter Grants, (ESG) Program, and/or Home Investment Partnerships Program, (HOME). Local non-profit organizations are also invited to attend and participate in this meeting.
