Supreme Court Strikes Down Defense Of Marriage Act

WASHINGTON — In a major victory for gay rights, the Supreme Court today struck down a provision of a federal law denying federal benefits to married gay couples and cleared the way for the resumption of same-sex marriage in California.

The justices issued two 5-4 rulings in their final session of the term. One decision wiped away part of a federal anti-gay marriage law that has kept legally married same-sex couples from receiving tax, health and pension benefits.

The other was a technical ruling that said nothing at all about same-sex marriage, but left in place a trial court’s declaration that California’s Proposition 8 is unconstitutional.  That outcome probably will allow state officials to order the resumption of same-sex weddings in the nation’s most populous state in about a month.

In neither case did the court make a sweeping statement, either in favor of or against same-sex marriage.  And in a sign that neither victory was complete for gay rights, the high court said nothing about the validity of gay marriage bans in California and roughly three dozen other states.  A separate provision of the federal marriage law that allows a state to not recognize a same-sex union from elsewhere remains in place.

Because nobody saw this coming **wink**

Looks like those missing wedding rings did indeed herald doom for Katy Perry and Russell Brand. The British funnyman has filed for divorce, citing the standard irreconcilable differences.

“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage,” Brand said in a statement (via the AP). “I’ll always adore her, and I know we’ll remain friends.”

TMZ says the doe-eyed popster may have been blindsided by the filing.

Weiner Admits Tweeting Lewd Photo

Anthony Weiner

How to put this delicately…

Does anyone else see the irony in the above headline?  A man named Weiner tweeted a photo of his….well, you get the idea.

U.S. Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY) just got married last July.  Today, Weiner admitted having online sex relationships with “about six women over the past three years”, after his botched cover-up attempt failed.

We should feel good knowing that Mr. Weiner never had “sex” outside of his marriage, HOWEVER he continued to have online relationships with other women after he in fact DID get married.  Ummmm…does anyone else find comfort in this revelation?  Mr. Weiner also stated he “believes” the women he sexted were all adults, but he does not actually know their ages.

Another juicy bit of irony here is that former President Bill Clinton officiated at Mr. Weiner’s wedding.

Ya gotta love politics!

Rendell And Wife Separate After 40 Years!

Talk about timing.  Shortly after leaving office, Ed Rendell has announced that he and his wife are separating.  Their decision to “live apart” is amicable and they will remain “friends”.  This should get the rumor mill going at full speed.  There were rumors the marriage was in trouble before Spendell left office.

Ed is busying being a lawyer, sports commentator, author and about 5 other things he has said yes to already.  Guess he won’t have time to sit home and cry in his beer.  Sounds like Ed has already “moved on”.  I hope Marge does too!

That didn’t take long!
