Man Killed In Wilkes-Barre Shooting

A Wilkes-Barre man was gunned down early Friday morning outside of his home on Willow Street.

Donald Bachman Jr., 49, was shot in front of 62 Willow St. around 3:40 a.m., according to police and the Luzerne County Coroner’s Office. Police said a preliminary investigation indicated a confrontation between Bachman and someone he did not know led to the shooting.

Some neighbors heard multiple gunshots, but didn’t see the confrontation or shooter. Several said Bachman worked nights at the Martz Group and described him as a hardworking mechanic.

Hazleton Man Charged In Fatal Shooting Outside Bar

HAZLETON, PA — Police charged Terrence Clarke in a fatal shooting early Sunday morning witnessed by state troopers who later captured him after a foot chase.

The victim, Garey S. Cox, 45, of East Eighth Street, Hazleton, later died at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest in Allentown.

Clarke, 26, of North Locust Street, Hazleton, wounded another man in the shooting the occurred around 2:10 a.m. outside Shaker’s Bar at 711 W. Diamond Ave., police said. The injured man was hospitalized, police said. His name and condition were not available.

Apparent Homicide In Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, PA— Authorities are considering the death of Eduardo Daniel Madera a homicide, pending a formal autopsy scheduled for this afternoon.

If the autopsy turns out as expected, the city’s murder count for 2013 rises to 12 in just over 10 months. No one has been charged as of Wednesday night in connection with the death.

Identification papers indicate Madera, 46, moved to the house at 320 Northampton St. from Kansas City, Mo., and Luzerne County’s acting Coronor William Lisman said he had been living there for a few months.

Shooting Leaves Two Injured In Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, PA —Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis and county Acting Coroner Bill Lisman said a man shot on South Welles Street has not died despite a report from city police stating the man has passed.

Lisman said the man is in “grave” condition but could not provide details since his office only becomes involved in a death.

“No one has died as of yet,” Salavantis said.

Feds: Hughestown Cop Sold Drugs On Duty

When federal agents confronted Hughestown police officer Robert F. Evans Jr. on Thursday about dealing powerful painkillers while on duty and in full uniform, he told them he wanted to cooperate.

Evans admitted obtaining oxycodone pills from a friend and through a prescription, selling the pills over the past year, and driving a client to Wilkes-Barre in a Hughestown police cruiser so the client could buy illegal drugs, according to an affidavit released Friday by the FBI after agents charged the officer.

“I dealt pills with a gun on my hip,” Evans told investigators, the affidavit said.

Glodzik Owes $519K In Taxes

WILKES-BARRE — On top of criminal charges and an upcoming deposition in a federal court case, add unpaid taxes to the list of problems facing Leo A. Glodzik III.

The state Thursday filed a $519,204 lien against Glodzik, saying he has not paid taxes on his personal income since 2006.

He owes $371,603 in taxes plus $147,565 in penalties and interest and the $36 filing fee paid by the state, according to the lien.  The next highest amount owed in the county was $336,066 by Super Luxury Tours Inc. of Wilkes-Barre, according to the state.

Glodzik declined comment Friday when reached by phone.
