Hollywood’s War Of The Wages

The second season of a Simon Cowell-free “American Idol” started this week. Cowell ditched the popular talent show last year to launch a U.S. version of his British music competition “The X Factor,” which he vowed would attract 20 million viewers. It fell short, topping out at 12 million. Now there’s word that the new “American Idol” judges, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, had been joking backstage that they would be “devastated” if they didn’t get 20 million viewers. (They did for the season premiere, but just barely.)

Lopez may be winning the ratings war, but Cowell is winning the war of the wages. The music executive earned $90 million last year thanks to “The X Factor,” which he owns a share of, and his record label, Syco. Lopez earned $25 million. Most of that came from “Idol” but she also has several movies coming out and a new clothing line.

Lady Gaga House Shopping In Suburban Lancaster

Map of Pennsylvania highlighting Lancaster County

Image via Wikipedia

Lady Gaga‘s new boyfriend, Taylor Kinney is a Lancaster County native who was raised in Neffsville, PA.  Taylor recently had a recurring role on the CW‘s hit series The Vampire Diaries and played Mason Lockwood (who was a werewolf before being killed off by one of the series stars).  Taylor also appears in Gaga’s You and I video.  You may have heard the Pennsylvania version of You and I, which gets considerable airplay.

It seems Gaga is looking at a home in Bent Creek, a gated community in Manheim Township off of Fruitville Pike.  The house is on the market for $1.7 million.  Gaga has been seen in the Lititz Giant and various places around Lancaster County for the last several months.  Here are some pictures of the home she is looking at http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2011/12/lady-gaga-pennsylvania-mansion-photos

The Bent Creek development is near Taylor’s parents house.  Location, location, location!

Adele’s Out-Of-Nowhere Mega-Year Explained

It wasn’t supposed to be like this: 2011 was supposed to be the year of Lady Gaga. Coming off a mammoth first album and incredibly successful world tour, the 25 year-old was expected to rule the world with her massively hyped and eagerly anticipated sophomore album, Born This Way.

Make no mistake, Gaga’s Born This Way was a success, debuting on the Billboard 200 with over 1 million copies sold and putting four singles in the top ten. But the real zeitgeist this year was unexpected: a humble, English, 23 year-old soul singer who we know simply as Adele.

The songstress found success with her first album, 2008’s 19, but it was she, and not Gaga, who enjoyed sophomore success the likes of which have not been seen since… well, ever!

Lady Gaga towered over other female musicians in 2011, heading a list of top earning women with an estimated $90 million in income, according to a http://www.Forbes.com survey released on Wednesday.

The “Born This Way” singer and performance artist made more than double her nearest rival — country/pop artist Taylor Swift — thanks to multiple endorsement deals and an estimated $1.3 million nightly gross ticket sales from her concert tour.

James Durbin Goes Home On American Idol!

Looks like the Daughtry curse claimed James Durbin tonight.  I am shocked.  After delivering too solid performances last night and being a front-runner most of the season I did not expect this.  James said he had a feeling today.  I thought James would win 😦

Scotty, Lauren and Haley will advance toward the finale.

Performances tonight were a videos by Gaga and Steve Tyler and live performances by Enrique Iglesias and Jordin Sparks.

My only consolation is that James will have the success that Chris Daughtry has had.  I would pay good money to attend a James Durbin concert.

James you are amazing and I know you will do great things.  Rock on!

Lady Gaga To Be This Week’s Guest Mentor On American Idol

Love her or hate her, Lady Gaga is every where these days.  Gaga will be the guest mentor this week on American Idol and work individually with  the final four contestants.  It has also been announced that Gaga will perform on the season finale later this month.

This week’s theme will be the songs of Leiber and Stoller.  The duo was responsible for such hits as “Jailhouse Rock”, “Stand By Me”, “Yakety Yack”, “Hound Dog”, ”Love Potion No. 9” and There Goes My Baby”.  I think Scotty should have a good week with this theme.

Leiber and Stoller were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

Lady Gaga To Appear On American Idol Next Week

What’s weirder than having Shakira appear on County Week?????  Having Lady Gaga appear on Frank Sinatra week.  Hmmmmmmmmmmm.  She will be singing her current hit “Alejandro“.  Harry Connick, Jr. is mentor….at least that makes plenty of sense pairing Harry Connick, Jr. with Big Band.

Reportedly Lady Gaga was paid $250,00 for the performance which will also include “Bad Romance” and original choreography.  Her outfit will be very skimpy sources report.

Grammy Awards

I just watched two segments from last night’s show:  Lady Gaga w/ Sir Elton John (show opener) and Pink.  Both amazing.  Last night’s show garnered the largest audience in the last six years and had 25.8 million viewers.  Needless to say the Grammy’s won their time slot!

Gaga’s red carpet dress was so Jane Jetson meets Glinda, Good Witch of the North.  The shoes were amazing.  How does one actually walk in those?  Like stilts, LOL!

I can’t stay up that late so thankfully there is tons of footage from last night’s show floating around the internet.

Did you watch the Grammy’s?? Any thoughts??

Adam Lambert Records A Song By Lady Gaga

American Idol runner up, Adam Lambert aka Glambert has recorded a song written by none other than Lady Gaga.  Whether you like her or not, she is a music phenom who can seem to do no wrong career wise.

Evidently the song was not specifically written for Lambert but Lady Gaga thought it would be a good match for the Season 8 veteran.

I will be very interested to hear this new song out of curiosity.

Will keep you posted!

Gaga And Kanye Cancel Fame Kills Tour – Mutual Decision

Citing creative differences, Lady Gaga and Kanye West have cancelled their joint tour.  Smart move Gaga!  Kanye “the ass” is going to take some time off while Lady Gaga is going on tour in a few weeks herself.

Distancing one’s self from an ego-centric jackass of epic proportions is always the right choice.  For whatever reason.

Why does anybody both with Kanye??  He is NOT that talented.  Sorry!
