“American Idol” Judges, Producers Zing “The Voice” & “The X Factor”

The comparisons between “American Idol” and every other singing competition on TV are numerous, but the “Idol” team — judges, host and producers alike — would like to remind you that “Idol” is the first and the best in the game.

Judge Randy Jackson says that although he is friends with Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul and he wishes them the best of luck with “The X Factor,” nothing else can compete with “Idol.”  “I think that ‘Idol’ is still the best TV show of its kind, anywhere.  We’re the original,” he says.  “We kind of invented this whole game that everybody’s now copying.”

Executive producer Ken Warwick goes further, saying that “Idol” is the only reality competition you can count on for real talent.  “This is the show that produces the stars,” he says.  “There is no other series over the years that has produced anywhere near the number of stars that we have.  To be honest, Leona Lewis was kind of a one-and-a-half hit star for a minute, but there’s no Kelly Clarksons, Carrie Underwoods, Jennifer Hudsons.  Coming up on [NBC] now is Kat McPhee — they are real stars.  They really are.  And none of these other shows are producing stars like that.”

Paul McDonald Goes Home On American Idol

Paul McDonald is a nice guy and I do like him, however, I feel the other seven contestants have more potential and it was his time.

Vote for the Worst has been thwarted in their attempts to influence the voting to eliminate Haley or Lauren.  My faith has been restored after last week’s vote that sent Pia home too early.

America got it right this week.

We wish Paul well and hope he finds success.

Nice performances by Kelly Clarkson and Rihanna.

American Idol: Ladies Night

Like last night, the performances improved as the show went on.   The last four women were excellent!

Haley Reinhart sang Alicia Keys’ “Fallin’”.  The audience, Steven and Jennifer loved it.  Randy did not.  I thought it was excellent and she exhibited confidence, was sexy and delivered a solid performance.

Thia Megia sang “On My Own” from Les Miserables to everyone’s delight.  All three judges had high praise for her tonal quality and Randy compared her to Michael Jackson.

Lauren Alaina sang “Turn The Radio On” by Reba McIntyre and oozed with natural talent and showed a great deal of comfort in performing.  She got big applause and great comments from the judges.

Pia Toscano sang “I’ll Stand By You” by the Pretenders and brought the house down as the finale.  Jennifer told her she was a sly one and saved the best for tonight.  I agreed with Randy that she was the winner this evening,

I missed the first three performances but the clips do not always show much…they tend to find the best part of the performance to highlight so unfortunately I can not in all honestly comment.

Julie Zorilla received much applause by the judges were not thrilled.  People should really avoid Kelly Clarkson songs (Breakaway).  It was suggested that she should have moved the key up higher to better showcase her voice.

Ashton Jones did well but Randy thought “Love All Over Me” by Monica was not enough for her.  He suggested something more like Diana Ross.  The audience enjoyed her performance based on the applause.

I liked Karen Rodriguez’s performance of Maria Carey’s “Hero”.  I agreed with the judges on her use of English and Spanish lyrics.  It was a nice touch.  The audience seemed to really like her performance.
