MOOSIC, PA – Maybe Derek Jeter liked his last excursion through Scranton/Wilkes-Barre so much, he couldn’t help taking another trip there.

More likely, that destination is becoming the place to be for rehabbing New York Yankee stars.

Whatever the reason, Jeter will make his second rehab appearance of the season with the Triple-A RailRiders starting with tonight’s 7:05 game with Pawtucket and is expected to hang around with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre possibly through Saturday.

And that’s encouraging news to a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre team that missed out on drawing some prime Yankees players who were working their way back to the big leagues at other levels of the organization in the past.

The circus is coming to town.

In the center ring will be Alex Rodriguez, one of the most prominent, and controversial, players in baseball history.

He is scheduled to play in Reading tonight as part of a rehab assignment with the New York Yankees following offseason hip surgery.

His appearance will be quite unusual – and for Reading baseball quite historic.

PHILADELPHIA – Michael Vick still hasn’t passed his concussion recovery test and remains out, but the Philadelphia Eagles strongly refuted reports of a rift between the quarterback and the team over the issue.

An ESPN report Friday said Vick believes “politics are entering the equation” in his bid to get back on the field as the team plays rookie quarterback Nick Foles, who will start a third straight game Sunday night against Dallas.

“There’s nothing to that,” said head coach Andy Reid, who said he has talked to Vick about the matter.

Head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder confirmed that Vick on Friday failed the ImPACT test that measures cognitive brain function for a third time this week, but said the team believes it has figured out why Vick reached a “plateau” in phase four of the five-phase recovery protocol.

City Of Reading Needs More Cops, Police Chief Warns

Despite needing 174 officers this year and budgeting for 168, the Reading Police Department has fewer than 140 officers able to do their full jobs, Police Chief William M. Heim told City Council on Monday.

And the Reading Fire Department is down seven firefighters from its already pared force – a gap being filled by mandatory overtime because the firefighters are too tired to volunteer for it – acting Fire Chief Jeffrey Squibb said.

Mass retirements have plagued both departments, and council asked the chiefs what their needs were for the city’s safety. The question was partly a reaction to council’s earlier, grudging approval of two new hires for the mayor’s office.

This Is Just Pathetic!

A 72-year-old Cherry Hill, NJ grandmother is in the Camden County jail on three counts of conspiracy and $300,000.00 bail.  Evidently Mom-Mom tried to unknowingly hire an undercover police officer to “inflict serious bodily injury” on her ex-husband, son and daughter.  The neighbors were not surprised and said this situation has been brewing for 30 years.  Police also have a large file on Mom-Mom (say it ain’t so Joe).

Nothing said lovin’ like puttin’ out a contract for a beat-down on your children and ex-husband.

Lions and tigers and bears, OH MY!
