Heroin Found In Dough At Hazle Township Commercial Bakery

HAZLE TOWNSHIP, PA — Heroin packets were found on dough being processed on a production line at Aryzta, a commercial baker of breads and donuts, earlier this week, state police at Hazleton said.

State police in a news release said an employee checking dough on a production line to a sheet dough machine found a suspected heroin packet at about 6 p.m. Monday.

The employee notified a shift supervisor as production was stopped and inspected. Other suspected heroin packets and drug paraphernalia were found inside the dough machine, state police said.

State police said Aryzta, based in Zurich, Switzerland, stopped production on the dough machine and destroyed all the products.

Amazon To Add 400 Jobs At Hazle Twp. Facility

The Amazon fulfillment center in the Humboldt Industrial Park in Hazle Township is growing.

The company said Wednesday it is adding 400 full-time positions to the 1,500 already there.

Kelly Cheeseman, an Amazon spokeswoman, said the new people are being added “to help pick, pack and ship customer orders.”

Cheeseman said the positions are being added now “to meet growing customer demand.”

Police: Man Found Unresponsive In Cab Had Over $100,000 In Heroin

HAZLE TOWNSHIP, PA — An unresponsive man in the back of a taxi cab awoke to a slew of charges after police say they found over $100,000 of heroin in his possession on Sunday morning.

According to police reports:

State police responded to assist EMS personnel at the Ramada Inn on North Church Street at 8:20 a.m. for a report of an unresponsive male in a taxi cab. When the 24-year-old man from Scranton was awoken by officers, he was found to allegedly be in possession of 3 ounces of raw heroin, a street value of approximately $5,000. The man was also found to allegedly have 10,280 glassine bags of heroine, with a street value of over $100,000.

American Eagle Opens New Distribution Center In Humboldt

Customers who placed an online order with American Eagle Outfitters typically had to wait between 7 and 10 days for their merchandise to arrive.

With the opening of the company’s newest distribution center in Hazle Township, they can now expect those packages within 2 to 5 days, said Michael Rempell, American Eagle Outfitters’ chief operating officer and executive vice president.

“It’s going to enable our company to effectively compete in the global economy,” Rempell said of the Humboldt Industrial Park facility, where a grand opening celebration was held Thursday.

The event brought company representatives, elected officials, community leaders and families of the 100 employees who have been hired to date at the Hazle Township facility together.

Two Men Arrested In West Hazleton Shooting

WEST HAZLETON, PA — Police have arrested two men and charged them in the shooting of one man and pistol whipping another man last week.

Rafael A. Comacho, 21, of Hazleton, was arrested at about 2:45 a.m. Monday when Hazleton police spotted him in the area of East Diamond Avenue and Ceder Street. Christopher Vega, 21, of Hazleton, was arrested Sunday night when found at 455 Samuels Ave. in Hazleton.

Police allege Comacho and Vega were involved in shooting Joshua L. Crutch, 20, inside 227 E. Broad St. and assaulting Leshawn Williams, 21, who was beaten and pistol whipped in a car.

Comacho was arraigned Monday by District Judge David Barilla in Swoyersville on charges of robbery, simple assault criminal conspiracy to commit robbery and unlawful restraint.  He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $100,000 bail.
