If it is done right, you don’t think about anything but the art when you walk into a gallery.

No thoughts about the work behind it all: how the art got there, the way it was hung, how it was promoted or what happened to the artwork that used to be up on the wall.

At Red Raven Art Co., that’s all the job of Lee Lovett, who has managed the gallery at 138 N. Prince St. since October 2006, just five months after it opened.

“I do everything from contacting artists, sending out contracts and hanging the gallery each month with a new show to designing the postcards and ads, managing and uploading our website, and finally handling all the accounting and bookkeeping,” she says.

43rd Annual Belsnickel Craft Show Set For This Weekend At Boyertown Senior High School

The 43rd annual Belsnickel Craft Show, presenting approximately 140 local and regional juried artisans, will be held on Friday, Nov. 29, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 30, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. All crafts for sale are handmade by artisans in the show and are not commercially manufactured or imported.

Among the traditional crafts on display will be woodworking and woodcarving, pottery, baskets, tin, papier-mache folk art, dolls and doll clothing, women’s and children’s clothing, silver and gold jewelry, quilts and quilted items, dried flowers, tole painting, weaving, scherenschnitte (paper cutting), clay sculpture, fraktur, Santas, stained glass, punched-tin art, wooden toys and Christmas items.

Pottstown Gallery On High Becomes Art Fusion 19464

Editor’s note:  Congratulations to our friends at Art Fusion 19464.  Arts revitalization is a key piece of Pottstown’s ability to reinvent itself and transform the borough into a once again thriving community!

POTTSTOWN, PA — As of this week, the Gallery on High is no more.

But don’t worry. You’re not going to miss any of the art exhibits, sales of local artists’ works or art classes offered there.

That’s because the nonprofit that offers appealing exhibits as well as engaging programming through its educational arm, the Gallery School of Pottstown, still exists at 254 E. High St. It just has a new name — Art Fusion 19464 — to go with a renewed and more acutely focused mission.

The name signifies the coming together — the fusion, if you will — of the gallery and educational portions of the organization, which launched in Pottstown in 2005, according to Erika Hornburg-Cooper, executive director and co-founder of Art Fusion 19464.

“We are evolving … again,” said Hornburg-Cooper. “We have so many arts and cultural amenities in Pottstown. This new name positions us as a destination.”

New Gallery Opening On First Friday In Downtown Lancaster

Northumberland County couple hang shingle on Water Street

They were only supposed to be visiting for the day.

In early June, Jody and Cheryl Fallon came to Lancaster to see a friend’s art exhibit on Gallery Row.

The Fallons, married artists who live about two hours north of Lancaster, walked around town and wound up in a gallery on Water Street.

They noticed the space next door was vacant and learned it was for rent. They looked at each other, Jody Fallon recalled, and an idea formed.

Dora Siemel Wins Best in Show Honors At Gallery On High’s “Re-Creative” Art Show

Pottstown, PA  –  Local Artist Wins Best In Show

Artist Dora Siemel received Best in Show honors for her piece, Buy More Stuff!, at a reception at the Gallery on High, Saturday, April 14.  Dora and 19 other local artists participated in Re-Creative, a recycled art show.  Entries in this show had to be created from recycled, upcycled or salvaged materials.

The $100 prize was sponsored by the National Association of Remodelers-Building Industries Exchange (NARI-BIE) Green Team.  Green Team member Christine Elliott awarded the prize.  The Green Team judges had the following to say about the winning entry:

Buy New Stuff!. . . stood out to the judges as a lively piece of art, steeped in the nostalgia of quality American manufacturing, while poking fun at our current culture which thrives on poorly made goods and constant consumerism.  While strong social messages are observed within this piece, it also stands alone as an artistic historic tribute.  The artful arrangement of materials from consumer products is delightful and the reclaimed nature of the materials strictly followed the theme of the show.  The reverse form inherent in the newspaper type elements used added an intriguing, reflective symbolism to this piece.  The piece takes us on a journey into our past, as it prods us to seriously consider our future.

Re-Creative runs through April 21.  Guests can view the exhibit during regular gallery hours: Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm and Saturday 10am to 3pm.  The Gallery is closed Sunday and Monday.

The Gallery School of Pottstown is a 501c3 non-profit community art school and gallery.  The School offers day, evening and weekend classes to all ages.  The goal of these classes is to help students develop their creative skills through self-expression and independence.  The Gallery on High hosts rotating shows featuring local artists.  The Gallery also sells handcrafted, one-of-a-kind gift items.

Local Artists Celebrate Recycled Art

The Gallery on High will host a reception on April 14 to celebrate their spring show Re-Creative.  The reception will last from noon until 2pm and light refreshments will be served. At 1:30 pm, a Best in Show prize will be awarded.  This $100 prize is generously sponsored by the Building Industries Exchange of Pottstown and Vicinity’s Green Team. All Gallery receptions are free and open to the public.
 
Entries in this show had to be created from recycled, upcycled or salvaged materials.  The artists created an incredible array of work.  The recycled origins of some pieces are immediately apparent, while other pieces have a more subtle message.  The theme of Re-Creative is wonderfully invoked in this show, as the artists each took something that is normally overlooked, thrown out or dismissed
and reimagined that item.
 
Participating artists include: Robyn Burckhardt, Jann Everett DeChristopher, Natalie Cyphers, Susan Ploppert, Christine Burnley, Millie Lea, Gail Ann Herring, Sara Benowitz, Dora Siemel, Bob Hakun, Jon Parker, Joe Hoover, Danielle D’Aries, Florence Mano, Lisbeth Bucci, Donna Steck-McMahon, Maggie Creshkoff, Sue Eyet, Norah Cannon and Julie Tonnessen.

New Destination Flea, Farmers And Co-Op Market To Open In Harrisburg

A new 80,000 square feet indoor marketplace is opening across from the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, either late January or early February 2011.  The marketplace will feature a variety of vendors, selling a vast array of merchandise.  A food court is being added in addition to merchant space, galleries and co-op retailers.  Another unique feature of the market is a stage and seating area where demonstrations, children’s activities and musical acts can take place during market hours.

North End Markets has a prime location, across from the busy Farm Show Complex and easy access to Interstates 81 and 83 as well as Routes 22 and 230!
