WILKES-BARRE, PA – Police on Friday seized a car and got search warrants to obtain more cellphone records in the murder of Michael Onley, according to court records.

The car, a silver 2005 Mercedez-Benz, was stopped for a traffic violation Thursday night and had been sitting in a Plymouth impound lot, according to police.

Investigators hope to find evidence a gun was fired in the car – fingerprints, gunshot residue, blood, guns, ammunition or other trace evidence – that would link it to the death of Onley, a deejay known as “DJ Mo” who was shot in the forehead in a drive-by shooting at Outsiders Bar at 650 S. Main St. on Oct. 13.

According to an affidavit filed in support of the warrant, witnesses told police the shots came from a silver or gray car, possibly a Mercedez-Benz, that was driving south on South Pennsylvania Avenue.

Wilkes-Barre police got a search warrant Tuesday for the cellphone records of the “paramour” of a man they say was at the scene of the fatal shooting of Michael Onley, according to court records.

Onley, a popular deejay who worked as “DJ Mo,” was shot in the forehead in a drive-by shooting at Outsiders Bar at 650 S. Main St. on Oct. 13.

According to an affidavit filed in support of the warrant, witnesses reported seeing a silver or gray car, possibly a Mercedes-Benz, driving south on South Pennsylvania Avenue at the time of the shooting. Police “obtained information” that David “D-Rock” Nealy, 32, may have been at the bar the night of the shooting, the affidavit says.

Cell phone records revealed a phone used by Nealy, who is under supervision of the state Board of Probation and Parole, used a cellphone tower near the bar, police said.

Michael Onley, the popular Wilkes-Barre disc jockey who rallied for justice after unrelated instances of gun violence claimed the lives of his younger brother and the teenager Trayvon Martin within weeks in 2012, was shot and killed early Sunday in a lot behind a Wilkes-Barre bar, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 12:15 a.m., police said, near the Outsiders Bar at 650 S. Main St. where Onley regularly worked under his professional name, “DJ Mo.” Paramedics transported Onley to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis confirmed Onley’s death. It was the ninth fatal shooting in the city this year and the third in the last month.
