The Reading School Board got a more than $3 million surprise this week.
The board was informed Wednesday night that district administrators had filed the final paperwork to receive state reimbursement on a long-finished construction project, something that had fallen through the cracks for more than a decade.
The state has approved the district’s PlanCon Part J filing for construction at 10th & Penn Elementary School. The state will cover almost 65 percent of the construction cost, which will mean just under $3.4 million for the district.
It was unclear why the paperwork was never filed.
