wp_20160922_20_31_53_proThe Pottstown Historical Society will meet Monday, November 21, 2016, at 7:00 pm at the Manatawny Still Works, at 320 Circle of Progress, in Pottstown. The cost is $15 per person, payable at the door. Entry includes a tour, one drink and a tasting of their local PA-distilled spirits, and a souvenir glass to take home. All are welcome. For questions, email PottstownHistory@gmail, or call 610-970-7355.

Water for the distillery is from the Manatawny Creek, fed by rare freestone streams at the base of the area watershed. The spirits have Pottstown namesakes, including J. Potts Whiskey, T. Rutter Rum, Keystone Whiskey, and Hidden River Gin. Come learn about how the earliest Americans made their spirits, and how that careful craftsmanship is translated into the 21st century.

Please join us for this fun and educational field trip with the Pottstown Historical Society.

POTTSTOWN, PA — Two proposals for becoming the next fixed base operator of the Pottstown Municipal Airport came in last week and borough council will likely approve the one from the company that already operates out of a nearby airport in Limerick.

Both Fare Share Ltd. of Limerick and Weston Inc. of Barto submitted proposals to succeed TNT Air Inc. as the Pottstown airport’s operator, council learned Wednesday at its committee-of-the-whole meeting.

Fare Share, which runs a pilot school and a charter company at Heritage Field in Limerick, received the borough staff’s recommendation to take over duties at the Pottstown Municipal Airport.

“They put together a pretty strong proposal,” Assistant Borough Manager Erica Weekley told council. “We ranked them first.”

Sly Fox Planning To Move Goat Races To Pottstown

POTTSTOWN, PA — If Jixxer hopes to repeat as Sly Fox Goat Race champion or Spartacus wins legitimately, it appears that it will have to be done in Pottstown, not East Pikeland, next year.

Sly Fox has let borough officials in Pottstown know of plans to move the annual spring Bockfest to Pottstown’s Circle of Progress from its traditional location at the brew pub along Route 113.

POTTSTOWN — The bar was bustling during the grand opening of Manatawny Still Works Friday night.

The newest addition to the cluster of businesses on Circle of Progress Drive is the brainchild of John Giannopoulos, the owner of Sly Fox Brewery, Jeff Vaughan, Paul Czachor, Al Matarazzo and Derek Menaldino.

Right now the distillery pumps out vodka, un-aged whiskey and — as of Friday morning — a double distilled rum.

And those three spirits took center stage Friday after the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Food Trucks, Beer Bring Crowd To Sly Fox Brewery In Pottstown

POTTSTOWN, PA — The parking lot in front of the Sly Fox Brewery and Tasting Room was transformed into a laid-back party scene Saturday during the Taps, Tunes and Trucks event.

The first ever combination event was the brain child of John Giannopoulis, who teamed up with representatives from the ODDyssey Half Marathon, which organized the preceding 5K race.

“(We) wanted to do a race out at the brewery and we were also talking about having a food truck event so we tied the two events together,” he said. “It’s about beer, food, running and music.”

While relaxing after the run, several teams of two lined up to play a larger-than-life version of beer pong that used trash cans painted red instead of cups and soccer balls instead of ping pong balls.

Pottstown Micro-Biz Hopes To ‘Distill’ Formula For Success

POTTSTOWN, PA — Pennsylvania’s fledgling craft distillery industry owes a debt of gratitude to America’s micro-brew movement and nobody knows it better than Max Pfeffer.

The director of operations for the Manatawny Still Works and its chief distiller, Pfeffer didn’t have to go far to find his new job.

It was a short hop to go from craft-brewing to craft-distilling for the chemical engineer.

After being educated in brewing at a special school at the University of California at Davis, Pfeffer “went right into beer,” and spent three years at Victory Brewing, followed by three years as brew master at Sly Fox Brewing Co., located directly across the street from the Circle of Progress location of the new distillery.
