Pottstown Puts Best Foot Forward With Another Spectacular ‘Carousel of Flavor’ Food Festival

wp_20160918_13_13_20_proThousands flocked to High Street in downtown Pottstown today for the 13th Annual Carousel of Flavor. This event is the primary fundraiser for the Carousel at Pottstown and one of the largest events hosted in the borough.  It turned out to be a beautiful day after some rain overnight and early this morning seemed menacing.

The trolley was carrying people from the festival site to the carousel building on regular intervals.  When I went, the trolley was full.  I noticed many folks taking advantage of the free ride.

sight_2016_09_18_193433_675-1The carousel is hopefully going to be up and running by the end of October.  This has been a decade long project that has finally reached completion.  We congratulate the Carousel committee and everyone involved for making this project a reality!

POTTSTOWN, PA – Officials are hoping that as the sum of the parts is greater than the whole, a collective effort of the borough’s revitalization efforts will result in greater sums of grant money and tourist dollars.

Steve Bamford, executive director of Pottstown Area Industrial Development, Inc. outlined a plan to borough council Tuesday that would see the many attractions clustered near Pottstown’s western gateway joining together in pursuit of funding and marketing.

The joint undertaking as part of a “tourism and recreation district” includes: Pottsgrove Manor, the Carousel at Pottstown, theColebrookdale Railroad, Manatawny Green miniature golf, Memorial Park with the splash park and Trilogy Park BMX track, Montgomery County Community College’s art gallery, the Schuylkill River Trail,Riverfront Park and the Schuylkill Heritage Area’s River of Revolutions interpretive center.

“There are some in place, some underway and some nearly ready,” Bamford told The Mercury Friday, referring to the state of the various sites.

POTTSTOWN, PA — Autumn may be here and winter may be coming — but so is mini-golf season.

Construction has begun on the course and officials say they hope it may be completed before winter.

The project has been at least three years in the making.

Located along High Street, west of Manatawny Creek and adjacent to the former Pottstown Metal Weld building, now home to the Carousel at Pottstown facility, the mini-golf course is meant to complement the carousel and be an attraction for users of the Schuylkill River Trail.

Pottstown Council Gives Carousel Project Top Funding Priority

Editor’s note:  I am glad to see that this project may soon be completed and start bringing in money!

POTTSTOWN — Borough Council has selected the Carousel at Pottstown and surrounding entrance to town as its top priority in its annual funding request to the Montgomery County Revitalization Fund.

The unanimous council vote followed the recommendation of Borough Manager Jason Bobst and grants coordinator Erica Weekley, both of whom said the funding could complete the long-running Carousel project and allow it to open to the public.

Key to that recommendation was the news that the Carousel organization had been issued a challenge by a donor, who pledged to match any funding raised. Council made its recommendation and the ultimate awarding of the funding contingent upon that pledge being realized.

Jim Arms, who acts as the liaison between council and the Carousel board of directors, told council Monday that, he is “99.9 percent sure” of the funding. “It was put to me as a challenge,” he said.

The Carousel At Pottstown

Part of the Carousel of Flavor events yesterday was a walking tour down to the carousel building to see the recent addition and to check out the carousel itself. About a dozen people took advantage of the opportunity.

The pictures give you an idea of the scope of this project.  The building seemed much larger inside than it appears from the outside.  The carousel is disassembled and you can see the different components lying around in groups.  It was nice to see the different animals, the side panels, the music maker etc…

I am looking forward to the day when the carousel is operational!  The gentleman who was talking to us said they need to raise another million dollars to do the next phase.
