Healthy Eats Stir Pottstown’s Food Scene At iCreate Cafe

Until a few years ago, Ash Khalil ate meat.

Learning the health benefits of a nutrient-rich diet made of mostly plant-based foods inspired him to open the iCreate Cafe in Pottstown in 2012.

Those who visit the cafe often describe it to others as a mix of vegan, vegetarian and in some cases gluten-free menu musts, with strong Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influences in many of the dishes.

Khalil is an eight-year survivor of kidney cancer and said not once did his doctors ever talk to him about the foods he ate and how they might have impacted his health situation.

POTTSTOWN, PA — Two proposals for becoming the next fixed base operator of the Pottstown Municipal Airport came in last week and borough council will likely approve the one from the company that already operates out of a nearby airport in Limerick.

Both Fare Share Ltd. of Limerick and Weston Inc. of Barto submitted proposals to succeed TNT Air Inc. as the Pottstown airport’s operator, council learned Wednesday at its committee-of-the-whole meeting.

Fare Share, which runs a pilot school and a charter company at Heritage Field in Limerick, received the borough staff’s recommendation to take over duties at the Pottstown Municipal Airport.

“They put together a pretty strong proposal,” Assistant Borough Manager Erica Weekley told council. “We ranked them first.”

We have a new restaurant in the 100 block of High Street in downtown Pottstown.  Bistro 137 opened this week.

They are open daily between 7am and 2:30pm serving breakfast and lunch.  I stopped in to grab a menu so that my readers will know about this new addition to our downtown.

Located in the building that formerly housed Churchill, Bistro 137 has a nice offering at very reasonable prices.  Breakfast includes bagels, pancakes, waffles, french toast, Danish, muffins, turnovers, oatmeal, low-fat granola with yogurt, yogurt, eggs, omelets and hash browns.  Everything on the breakfast menu is under $5!

Lunch includes appetizers, salads, cold sandwiches or wraps, New York style sandwiches and wraps, Bistro 137 signature sandwiches and wraps, Panini and soups.  Nothing over $9.

Drinks include coffee, tea, smoothies (a variety of flavors) soda, juice, bottled water and an expresso bar!

Bistro 137 also does catering!

I will be stopping in and giving Bistro 137 a try soon.  Look for a restaurant review!
