Bern Section Of Schuylkill River Trail To Be Built

It’s taken nearly five years to get to this point, but a half-mile walking trail along the Schuylkill River in Bern Township will be built by summer.

“It will be nice for people to get out on the trail,” Bern Township Manager Brian Potts said. “It’s picturesque in the summertime. It’s a nice location. Hopefully, people will enjoy it.”

The idea for the trail started in 1996, as Bern officials began working on a comprehensive parks and recreation plan. Potts said the trail was discussed again in the middle of the last decade, but Bern officials seriously began work on the project in 2007.

Baby Pigs Abandoned On Route 222, Now At Berks County Animal Rescue League

These little piggies were indeed going to market, until all 55 of them got left in the medial strip of Route 222 in Bern Township on Wednesday.

Today, they’re eating like little pigs at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County in Cumru Township, waiting for the owner to come get them.

“This is an interesting place,” said the league’s marketing director, Chris Shaughness. “You never know what you’re going to get into.”

The months-old piglets, weighing 20 to 30 pounds each, were still in the 5-by-7-foot trailer when Bern police got there about 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.
