Former Conrad Weiser Coach Jailed After Violating Court Order

A former Conrad Weiser High School coach accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl was handcuffed and taken to Berks County Prison today after allegedly violating an order for the second time in less than a month that he not contact the girl.

Benjamin J. Stopper, 31, of the 200 block of Longview Drive, South Heidelberg Township, is charged with having sexual contact with a child and corrupting a minor.

Stopper’s original bail set at $20,000 on Aug. 16, but Judge Thomas G. Parisi raised his bail to $100,000 on Sept. 11 after prosecutors alleged Stopper had contact with the girl against Parisi’s orders. Stopper’s family posted 10 percent of the bail, and Stopper was released.

A former Conrad Weiser High School athletics coach accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl he coached was allowed to remain free today after posting additional bail imposed for allegedly violating a court order not to contact her.

Benjamin J. Stopper, 31, of the 200 block of Longview Drive, South Heidelberg Township, is charged with having sexual contact with a child and corruption of a minor.

Conrad Weiser Coach Charged In Sex Assault

A Conrad Weiser High School athletics coach was charged by state police late Friday night with having sex with a 16-year-old girl he coached.

Troopers said they arrested Benjamin J. Stopper at his South Heidelberg Township home at about 9:15 p.m. He was awaiting arraignment in Reading Central Court late Friday night.

Stopper, 31, of the 200 block of Longview Drive had a three-month-long sexual relationship with the girl, troopers said.  He would meet her at his house and her home, give her rides home from practice and even took her along on a business trip to Philadelphia.

Troopers said they contacted school officials late Friday night to let them know about the charges.
