Three Pop-Up Beer Gardens This Year From PHS

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Pop-Up Garden has been annual warm-weather hit – what with the transformation of a vacant lot into an urban oasis, complete with beer and great food.

Why not do three of them this year?

PHS plans to set up in new spots in East Passyunk and Logan Square and to return to 1438 South St., starting the first week of June. The closing date for each beer garden is October 1.

Schuylkill River Festival 2013, October 12 From Noon To 6pm In Pottstown

RiverFest celebrations are on Saturday, Oct 12, 2013 from noon until 6pm at Riverfront Park (140 College Drive in Pottstown)

Learn to Kayak along the river between 12 and 4:30 were kayaks and equipment will be available for a low cost ($15/half hour) through the day.

Reading Fair Begins Its Weeklong Run On Sunday

This year’s fair begins Sunday and runs through next Saturday.  Hours are Sunday, 1 to 8 p.m.; Monday, Tuesday, next Thursday and Friday, 4 to 10 p.m.; and Wednesday and next Saturday, 1 to 10 p.m.  Admission is $10 per person and includes parking as well as all events for the day.  Children 3 and under are admitted free.

Kids Day at the Fair is Wednesday, with children 4 to 18 years old admitted for $5. Senior Citizen (65 and older) and Military (with ID) Appreciation Day is Tuesday, with admission for those groups at $5 per person.

New this year is a special admission discount on Sunday that will admit a carload of people (up to 10) for a flat fee of $25.  If there are more than 10 in the car, each additional person will be admitted for $8.

Norristown Arts Hill Festival Set For May 4

NORRISTOWN ­­— The fourth annual Norristown Arts Hill Festival on May 4 will have more than 30 music, theater, dance and spoken word acts on DeKalb Street from Lafayette Street to Penn Street.

The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the street will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Traffic on Main Street will continue throughout the festival day.  The Showcase Stage on DeKalb Street, across from the Centre Theater, will start with children’s acts from 10 a.m. to noon.

The festival will feature “Kids Corner,” a family-friendly, child-friendly performance, vending and activity area located in the 200 block of DeKalb Street.  Other musical acts are scheduled for later in the day on the Showcase stage.

The Festival Stage, on DeKalb Street above Penn, will feature 30-minute musical acts that will begin on the hour, said Richard Rogers Jr., the president of the Norristown Arts Council.
