Hazleton Police Chief: Shooting Death An Execution

A man shot and wounded during an argument amid a group of people at a vacant lot on Alter Street in Hazleton staggered up West Fourth Street in the rain before being shot in the head and killed late Thursday, city police Chief Frank DeAndrea said.

DeAndrea called the killing an execution.

He asks people who saw the incident to call police at 911 if they are in the Hazleton area or 570-459-4940.

Surveillance cameras show the argument occurring in a lot at 590 Alter St., and police circled a trail of bloodstains on the sidewalk and road along Fourth Street to where the victim was found just west of Emerald Court at 10:30 p.m.

Arrest Warrant Issued For Suspect In Sherman Hills Shooting

WILKES-BARRE, PA — City police overnight obtained an arrest warrant for Brian Keith Hayes, 23, charging him with critically injuring another man in a shooting in the Sherman Hills apartment high rise on Parkview Circle Monday night.

Hayes, last known address as 279 S. Washington St., is charged with attempt to commit criminal homicide, illegal possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment and two counts of aggravated assault.

City police believe Hayes, known as “Keefy Blood,” fired multiple rounds striking Brandon Eubanks in the neck and other parts of his body on the second floor of the high rise just after 8 p.m., according to the criminal complaint.

Pottstown Murder Victim Identified

Pottstown, PA – The victim of Friday night’s homicide was identified today as 38-year-old Pottstown man Artie Bradley.

Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele said that the Montgomery County coroner performed an autopsy Saturday that determined Bradley died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police Probe Pottstown Shooting, Victim Flown To Lehigh Hospital

Editor’s note:  Unfortunately, I was almost right in the middle of this tonight.  Getting a little too close for comfort.  I think the Attorney General’s Mobile Task Force is sorely needed.  Much of the crime in Pottstown is drug related.  It’s time to get serious and ferret out these criminals.  This needs to be the first order of business, not tourism. People are not going to flock to Pottstown if it is NOT SAFE! You are putting the cart before the horse.

POTTSTOWN – A shooting that took place in the area of a downtown alley Wednesday evening resulted in at least one victim being taken by car to the hospital and then flown by helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital for further treatment.

The patient’s condition and name were unavailable at press time.

Personnel at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center refused to provide any information or even confirm a shooting victim was or had been in the hospital.

However, The Mercury learned from another source that a patient flown from the hospital’s helicopter pad was the shooting victim.

2 Dead, 1 Injured In Early-Morning Shootings In Sheraden

Police are investigating if the same shootout early Monday in Sheraden is responsible for leaving two men dead and a third critically injured, Pittsburgh police said.

Police found a body face down in between two houses in the 2700 block of Zephyr Avenue shortly after 8 a.m. The discovery came hours after a teenager was killed in a shooting incident a block away on Glen Mawr Avenue.

Shortly after the 12:20 a.m. shooting, a 24-year-old male walked into Allegheny General Hospital, North Side, with gunshot wounds and is in critical condition, police said.

Police believe the fatalities and the injury are likely related but are conducting more interviews before saying all three are linked, said Lt. Daniel Herrmann.

Killings, Shootings, Crashes Mark Violent Weekend In Philadelphia Area

The weekend in the Philadelphia region was marked by a series of violent incidents, including shootings and car crashes that have left at least eight people dead since Friday night.

The deaths include two fatal shootings in Camden and three in Philadelphia, as well as two deadly traffic accidents in South Jersey and one in Bensalem.

Other violent incidents also added to the weekend mayhem, including the shooting of a Temple University student, two double shootings and a robber who threatened to give his victim AIDS.

In Camden, authorities are investigating two deadly shootings that occurred hours apart Sunday morning.

Pottsgrove Football Team Volunteer Was 1 Of 2 Shooting Victims

Washington Township, PA – State police are investigating the deaths of two young men whose bodies were found early Friday in the front seat of a car parked in an isolated wooded area near Barto.

Both appear to have died of gunshot wounds, police said.

One of the men found, Stephen Mixon, 27, of Walnut Ridge in Lower Pottsgrove, was a volunteer coach with the Pottsgrove High School football team and the retail manager of the Schuylkill Valley Sports store in Audubon.

The other man in the car was Joseph McCullough, 20, of Eighth Street in Pottstown.

Coroner Releases Name Of West York Shooting Victim

The York County Coroner’s Office has released the name of a West York man found dead outside his home early Tuesday morning.

Lancelot Hylton, 41, of the 1100 block of West King Street, suffered a gunshot wound, York County Coroner Pam Gay said.

He was found dead on the front-porch stairs of his home, officials said.

Police Probe 2 Overnight Killings In North Philadelphia

Philadelphia police are investigating two overnight killings that happened less than a mile apart in North Philadelphia.

The first happened shortly after 11 p.m., when a 53-year-old was beaten in the head with a blunt object outside a home on the 2800 block of North Fairhill Street, police said.

The exact weapon used wasn’t known, but police at the scene told reporters that witnesses reported seeing a man running from the scene carrying some type of metal object.

Police this morning identified the victim as Miguel Aguilar and said he lived on the block where he was killed.

Mountville Man, 21, Shot Outside Lancaster City McDonald’s

A man was wounded in a shooting Thursday night outside a Lancaster city McDonald’s.

The victim, a 21-year-old Mountville man, was shot in the lower torso about 6:45 p.m. outside McDonald’s at 575 N. Franklin St. by McCaskey High School, police reported.

A “verbal dispute” led to gunshots, according to city police.

The victim underwent surgery and is expected to be released from a local hospital sometime Friday, according to city police Det. Lt. Michael Winters.

Man Shot After Asking Group Of People To Leave Wilkes-Barre Shopping Plaza

WILKES-BARRE, PA — A man hired to keep the parking lot clean at South Main Plaza was shot in the leg Thursday after he reportedly told people to leave the property

Jason Girton, who only knows the victim by his first name, Fletcher, said he spoke to the victim after he was shot.

Girton, of Mountain Top, said Fletcher was shot in the lower leg and was taken away by ambulance.

Man Killed In Saturday Morning Shooting In Manheim Township

A man was killed in a shooting Saturday morning in Manheim Township.

According to emergency dispatches, the man was transported to a hospital about 3:50 a.m. for a gunshot wound.

The incident reportedly happened in the area of the 800 block of New Holland Avenue, just outside the city.

Officials confirmed Saturday at 10:30 a.m. that the man has died.

Pottstown Shooting Death Ruled Homicide

POTTSTOWN, PA — The victim of a fatal shooting Thursday night has been identified.

Steven Mitchell, 20, was found dead in a car in the 400 block of Jefferson Avenue.

Mitchell died from a single gunshot wound to the torso, according to Dr. Walter Hofman, the Montgomery County Coroner. Hofman was not able to confirm where Mitchell lived.

Mitchell’s death was ruled a homicide, Hofman said.

Boy Airlifted After Shooting In North Coventry

NORTH COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, PA— Two bicycles were left abandoned on the sidewalk of West Main Street in the South Pottstown section of the township Friday evening while emergency responders treated a child who suffered a gunshot wound.

The 8-year-old boy, according to witnesses, was riding his bicycle past the Pottstown Dance Studio near Coyne Alley when the incident happened.

An arch of blood that started near the bikes showed the path the victim took after the shooting. The crimson spots stopped in the grassy driveway next to the dance studio at 72 W. Main Street.

The child was not a student of the school, a dance studio official told The Mercury.

Two Camden Killings End Year On A Fatal Note

CAMDEN, NJ — Two men were killed Tuesday in Camden in what authorities said appeared to be a drug-related shooting.

They became the city’s 56th and 57th homicide victims of 2013, pushing the homicide rate to the second-highest level on record and the number of victims to its third-highest level. In 2012, 67 people were slain.

Around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to a house on the 700 block of Division Street, also known as Ramona Gonzalez Street, in the Bergen Square neighborhood.

They found Jorge Chavis, 31, and James Anderson, 23, dead from gunshot wounds, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release.

Charges Filed Against 2 In Pottstown King Street Commons Murder

POTTSTOWN — Police filed charges against a pair of Philadelphia men for the Friday morning murder of George Hashimbey, 22, at the King Street Commons apartments.

Khaleef Jones, 21, and Daquan Hamilton, 20, will both face charges filed Sunday by Pottstown Police in connection to the alleged murder that also left another victim in an area hospital with gunshot wounds.

The second victim was not named but was identified as a 23-year-old man by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

Jones and Hamilton were both officially charged Sunday by the Pottstown Police, according to court documents, which listed the case, as of 4:30 p.m., as “inactive.”

Investigation Continuing Into Homicide At Pottstown Apartment

POTTSTOWN, PA — One man was killed and another man injured early Friday in a middle of the night shooting in the King Street Commons apartments at King and Charlotte streets.

The victim was identified Friday as George Hashimbey, 22, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Walter Hofman.

Court records obtained by The Mercury show Hashimbey with addresses in Pottstown and in Philadelphia.

Hofman said Hashimbey died of a gunshot wound to the stomach and chest area. Hofman ruled the death a homicide after the autopsy was completed Friday.

Man Dies In North Side Bar Shooting

One man died and another was injured in a shooting at an East Allegheny bar early this morning.

Donald Lowry, 46, died at Allegheny General Hospital at 1:25 a.m., about 25 minutes after the shooting, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office. Another man, whose name has not been released, was treated at the hospital for a gunshot wound to the buttocks.

Pittsburgh police were called to JR’s Bar about 1 a.m. for a report that a man with a silver pistol shot Mr. Lowry multiple times, according to a news release from Major Crimes Lt. Daniel Herrmann.

Multiple People Shot Following Harrisburg Youth Party

Multiple adults and juveniles were shot as they left a youth party at the Community Center at Walnut and Hoerner streets in Harrisburg early Saturday morning.

Police were dispatched to a shooting report at North 16th and Walnut streets at 12:55, and upon arrival, were directed to Walnut and Hoerner streets to investigate a report of multiple shots fired.

As the investigation was underway, several people arrived to area hospitals with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Prosecutors Will Charge Wilkes-Barre Man With Homicide

Prosecutors plan to charge Vito Aiello on Monday afternoon with an open count of criminal homicide in the shooting death of his wife last week.

Aiello, 48, of 389 Andover St., Wilkes-Barre, is accused of fatally shooting his wife, 47-year-old Jane Aiello, before turning the gun on himself late Thursday.

Vito Aiello remains hospitalized at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, with gunshot wound to the face. Prosecutors say he is severely injured, but expected to survive.

His arraignment is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the hospital.
