‘Fast & Furious 6’ Fuels Record Weekend At Box-Office

The exhaust smoke hasn’t even cleared, and already Hollywood can brag about its biggest money-making Memorial Day Weekend ever.

Hollywood Reporter hit the accelerator with its gushing, declaring the expected four-day take of $316 million to be “absolutely monumental,” leaving previous late May holiday weekends choking in its dust.

“One of the biggest weekends of all-time!” writes Paul Dergarabedian.

Indeed, BoxOfficeMojo.com gives the previous champ as Dec 25-27, 2009 (led by Avatar), with a distant $259.9 million in total domestic ticket sales. Then again, add in the the $58.3 million from Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, and the comparable four-day total becomes an unsurpassed $318.2 million.

Avatar Takes All Time Revenue Record From Titanic

Avatar’s domestic revenue total has reached $630.1 million.  Directed by James Cameron, “Avatar” surpassed his own “Titanic,” which had held the domestic revenue record at $600.8 million.

With a record $2.2 billion worldwide, “Avatar” also soared past the $1.8 billion “Titanic” took in globally.

James Cameron’s film Avatar has grossed over 1 billion dollars in twenty days and is set to become the second highest grossing film of all time and may possibly even overtake Titanic.

Avatar On Course To Set Box Office Record

By the end of this weekend Avatar is projected to have earned $350 million in North America and $1.5 BILLION worldwide!

I hope this means a sequel sooner than later!!!

James Cameron is taking about making a sequel to Avatar already!   OMG I hope so!  The door was left open at the end for more adventures so we can only hope that’s the case.

Review of Avatar

That was the fastest three hours I have spent in a movie theater in a long time.  I was left wanting more, more, more.

We opted not to do 3D and I am glad we didn’t.  It was visually stimulating or stunning enough in digital.

The movie is The Emerald Forest meets Star Wars.  Avatar was filmed in New Zealand which has incredible scenery.  The plot is compelling.  It’s not just a lot of computer generated tricks.  The characters are developed pretty well and you definitely take sides as the film progresses.

I won’t give anything away but IMHO this is a movie to buy, keep and watch over and over.  James Cameron out did himself.    The hype doesn’t even begin to do the movie justice and the trailers are nothing compaired to the actual movie.

The ending leaves the door open for another adventure!  I hope so anyway.

I am off to see Avatar.  Of course, since I have an opinion about everything, a review will be forthcoming later today or tomorrow!   I hope this movie lives up to the hype.   The snippets they are showing look incredible!  James Cameron’s movies are usually awesome so… off I go.
