Montgomery County, PA  Montgomery County Community College will hold three open houses this fall to provide prospective students and the community with information about the College’s programs, campuses and activities. The College’s Central Campus, located at 340 DeKalb Pike in Blue Bell, will host an open house on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. – noon in Parkhouse Hall.

The College’s West Campus, located at 101 College Drive in Pottstown, will host an open house on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. in the South Hall Community Room.

Both open houses will provide prospective students and their families with information about MCCC’s credit and non-credit programs. Admissions representatives will be on hand to answer questions about the admissions process, transfer opportunities, e-learning, financial aid and intercollegiate athletics, among other topics. In addition members of the College’s faculty will share information on the 100+ associate degree and certificate programs that are part of a comprehensive curriculum.

The Culinary Arts Institute of Montgomery County Community College will also host an open house on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m.-noon at its facility in the Towamencin Town Square complex, located at 1400 Forty Foot Road in Lansdale, Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the kitchens and classrooms while learning about MCCC’s Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry Arts associate degree programs, as well as its Culinary Enthusiast and other non-credit offerings. Student Success Center advisors will be on hand to answer questions about the admissions process and financial aid, among other topics.

The College’s Central Campus, located at 340 DeKalb Pike in Blue Bell, will hold its open house on Saturday, March 28 in conjunction with the Montgomery County Wellness Expo. The open house runs from 10 a.m.-noon in Parkhouse Hall, while the Wellness Expo runs from 9 a.m.-noon in the lower lervel of College Hall.

Presented by Einstein Medical Center Montgomery, Blue Bell Rotary and Montgomery County Community College, the annual Wellness Expo offers free screenings, educational information, presentations and giveaways throughout the day. Health Checks—including reduced cost 26-panel blood screening; Ultra C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and Homocysteine test; and Prostate-Specific Antigen test—will be offered from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on a first come, first served basis. MCCC Announces New Employees In Enrollment Services, Marketing

Blue Bell/Pottstown, Pa.—Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) welcomes three new administrators to fill roles that are critical to the institution’s mission of promoting student access and success.

New hires include Sherry Phillips-Mayers, Philadelphia, director of records and registration/registrar; Angela Polec, Philadelphia, executive director of marketing and communications; and Joyce Wheatley, Pennsburg, director of student recruitment.

Sherry Phillips-MayersSherry Phillips-Mayers has worked at MCCC since 2006 in a variety of enrollment service capacities. Most recently, she served as associate director of records and registration. In her new role as director of records and registration/registrar, she oversees student registration policies and procedures as well the management and integrity of the College’s academic records, among other responsibilities.

Phillips-Mayers holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Millersville University and a Master of Science degree in Education with a specialization in enrollment management from Capella University.

Angela PolecAngela Polec comes to MCCC from Temple University, where she served as the associate director of online marketing for advancement communications, and most recently as director of marketing for strategic marketing and communications. In her new role as executive director of marketing and communications, she leads MCCC’s branding, web and media strategies, among other responsibilities.

Polec holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing and a Master of Science degree in Marketing from Temple University’s Fox School of Business.


Joyce Wheatley
comes to MCCC from DeVry University, where she served as the campus dean inJoyce Wheatley Chesapeake, Va. before becoming president of the institution’s Philadelphia metro area campuses and centers.  In her new role as director of student recruitment, she is responsible for all aspects of MCCC’s admissions and recruiting efforts.

Wheatley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from University of Delaware and a Master of Arts degree in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University.

Community Invited To Annual Montgomery County Regional College Fair

Plymouth Meeting, Pa.—Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) will partner with Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC) to present the annual Montgomery County Regional College Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. As a result of renovations to MCCC’s gymnasiums, the fair will be held at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, 201 East Germantown Pike, Plymouth Meeting. The event is free and is open to the public.

Representatives from more than 160 accredited colleges and universities will be on hand to speak with students and their parents about admissions criteria and procedures. High school students in grades 10, 11 and 12 are encouraged to attend along with their parents and friends. The fair will also be beneficial for transfer and adult students, as well as for college students seeking a place to take courses while home for the summer.

Financial aid officers from local colleges and guidance counselors from Montgomery County high schools will be prepared to answer questions regarding paying for college and the college search process. In addition, representatives from lending institutions and financial advisors will offer information about their services.

Admissions and financial aid workshops with both be offered at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. During the “Introduction to Admissions” workshop, participants will learn about application procedures, writing an entrance essay, early action and early decision options, scheduling a campus visit and other relevant topics. During the “Financial Aid” workshop, participates will get an overview of the financial aid process.

PMMC To Consolidate Business Office, Move 30 More Jobs Out Of Pottstown

POTTSTOWN, PA — Pottstown Memorial Medical Center has confirmed that business operations for the hospital and several others owned by Community Health Systems will be consolidated in Easton, moving 30 jobs there.

Hospital spokeswoman Debra Bennis provided the following statement after The Mercury contacted her seeking confirmation of a tip: “Providing patients with quality health care while operating an efficient organization is one of our top priorities.  To keep hospital resources focused on our patients, we are moving our business office functions to a centralized, external office in Easton.  This transition will also enhance operational efficiencies through technological advances for scheduling appointments.  All 30 affected employees are being offered a position with the central business office or another area of our hospital. We value these individuals and appreciate the professionalism they bring to our organization.”

A business office worker who contacted The Mercury, and whose name has been withheld, said the office workers were gathered into a meeting Sept. 11 during which the hospital’s CEO and CFO informed them of the change.
