New Airports Chief Wants To Bring More Nonstop Flights To Pittsburgh
Christina Cassotis doesn’t see Pittsburgh International Airport becoming a hub again, but she does think there are opportunities to add more flights.
Ms. Cassotis, 50, most recently managing officer of the air services practice for ICF SH&E, a Boston-based aviation consultant, was introduced today as the new chief executive officer of the Allegheny County Airport Authority.
In her new job, she will be overseeing operations at Pittsburgh International in Findlay and the Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin.
But her main focus will be to bring more nonstop flights to Pittsburgh, a city that lost hundreds of flights and dozens of destinations when US Airways dropped its airport hub in 2004.

Lancaster City police are still investigating the possibility that Marcus Anthony Rutter, 16, had an accomplice in the robbery and killing of Nicole Mathewson.
As of 2 p.m., police had not announced the arrest of a second person in connection with Mathewson’s death, which was discovered Monday morning in her home in the 700 block of North Franklin Street.
Lt. Todd Umstead would not confirm or deny whether police are looking for a second person.
He would only refer to a police news release, which indicated officers were investigating the possibility that Rutter had an accomplice.
Carbondale Adopts 2015 Budget With Wage Tax Increase
CARBONDALE, PA — City council on Monday unanimously adopted a budget for 2015 that raises the city’s wage tax a notch to cover an anticipated $120,000 deficit.
Council voted 7-0, with Joseph Marzzacco, Kathleen Connor, Jerry Arnese, Francis Lagana, John Masco, John Gigliotti and Walter Martzen all in favor, on both a budget appropriation ordinance and a separate ordinance raising the earned-income tax from 1.6 percent to 1.7 percent.
Increasing the city portion of the earned-income tax from 1.6 percent to 1.7 percent would equate to an extra $24 levied on a resident with the city’s median earnings of $23,893.
With the school wage tax remaining at 0.5 percent, the total wage tax on a Carbondale resident now will increase from the current 2.1 percent to 2.2 percent next year, when the one-tenth-of-1-percent hike is implemented.

Wilkes-Barre Mayor Leighton Gets $150K To Help Balance 2015 Budget
WILKES-BARRE, PA — The mayor asked and the authority board complied.
Mayor Tom Leighton Tuesday asked the members of the city’s Parking Authority for a little help for the city’s coffers. On a 4-1 vote, the authority approved giving the city $75,000 now and another $75,000 after the first of the year.
“This eliminates me from raising property taxes in the city,” Leighton said after the vote.
One authority member, Maryanne King, expressed concerned for the move, noting that auditors recently reported the need to increase revenues and replenish a depleted reserve fund to assure needed capital improvements of authority assets.

DA Ferman: Bradley Stone Committed Suicide In Woods Near His Home
The manhunt for Bradley W. Stone, the ex-Marine wanted in the killings of his ex-wife and five of her family members in Montgomery County, ended Tuesday with the discovery of his body in woods near his Pennsburg home, police said.
Stone is believed to have killed himself with a knife found near his body, county District Attorney Risa Ferman said at a 4:30 p.m. press conference.
Earlier, officials evidently were at a loss as to Stone’s whereabouts as District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman announced a multiagency effort involving local, state and federal law enforcement officers to find him.
But a grid search of the area surrounding his home eventually turned up his body in the woods, Ferman said.
