Airmall At Pittsburgh International Celebrates New Stores, Renovation

The place known for jet ways featured a runway Sept. 29.

The Airmall at Pittsburgh International Airport teamed with the Allegheny County Airport Authority for a special fashion event to mark the 15th anniversary of the airport authority and celebrate the completion of a $10 million renovation that created a new retail core in the center of the airport’s air-side terminal.

“Fly 2014: An Invitation to Fashion & Flair With Altitude” showcased the latest styles from the Airmall shops. The fashion show was the first event of this kind for the airport since it opened in 1992.

The show helped introduce new retail stores at the Airmall, including several international luxury brands. Italian-based Pinko recently opened its first U.S. store in the Airmall. Other stores include Furla, Lacoste, Armani Jeans, Hugo Boss, Tumi, Desigual, Collezioni — the Beauty Gallery and Bottega dei Sapori, an Italian specialty foods store.

Scranton Commuter Tax Struck Down By Judge

Scranton commuters will not have to pay a commuter tax.

Senior Judge John Braxton of Philadelphia issued an order today striking down Scranton’s commuter tax.

The judge dismissed two procedural objections made by petitioners opposing the commuter tax, but agreed that Act 205 doesn’t give the city power to exclusively levy a tax on commuters. The wage tax had to be levied on both nonresidents and residents.

Frein Manhunt Moves North

Barrett Township, PA. — The manhunt for a suspected cop killer shifted again Monday, but by nightfall had returned to the area where law enforcement focused their search efforts in recent days.

At about 11 a.m., state police cruisers, lights flashing, roared down Route 447, turning onto Spruce Cabin Road to establish a perimeter. More positioned themselves along the eastern edge of Route 447 and peered into the trees. The perimeter wrapped around to Route 390 and continued to the area near the Barrett Township Elementary Center, which was being used as a staging area, then it wrapped back east.

State troopers appeared on high alert.

Monday marked the 17th full day of searching for Eric Matthew Frein. Police accuse the 31-year-old of taking position outside of the Blooming Grove barracks Pike County with a .308-caliber rifle and opening fire during a late-night shift change on Sept. 12, killing state police Cpl. Bryon Dickson II and severely wounding Trooper Alex Douglass. State police said he then disappeared into the vast surrounding woodlands. Frein, of 308 Seneca Lane, Canadensis, left behind his parents’ Jeep Cherokee in a swampy retention pond two miles north of the barracks.

Frontier Airlines To Return To Philadelphia

Frontier Airlines – with new owners, a new management team, and a new logo on its planes – is coming to Philadelphia with flights to seven cities.

Denver’s hometown airline will announce Tuesday nonstop flights from Philadelphia International Airport to Miami, Orlando, and Tampa, Fla., and Cancun, Mexico, in December, and to Atlanta, Charlotte, N.C., and Chicago next spring.

“These are underserved markets with very high fares,” Frontier chief executive officer David Siegel said. “We’re going to expand the market, stimulating it with low fares and dropping in a little bit of capacity.”

Frontier hasn’t flown scheduled service from Philadelphia since January 2013, soon after it began flights from Trenton-Mercer Airport.
