Downtown Inc Using “Destination Branding” To Market York Neighborhoods

If you name it, they will come.

Sonia Huntzinger, executive director of Downtown Inc, said that’s the theory behind York’s recent push to brand pockets of its 26-block downtown business district, creating a patchwork of neighborhoods that will each offer something different to regional visitors.

In the last two years, the nonprofit, which promotes revitalization of the city, has partnered with grassroots groups to demarcate several sections, including Royal Square, the Market District, Beaver Street and the latest, Weco.

The growth in destination branding, as the strategy is called, has coincided with Downtown Inc’s “Who Knew” campaign, a YouTube ad effort that highlights shopping and eatery options with the goal of bringing more foot traffic into local businesses.

York City Police Announce 11 Drug Arrests

York City Police released more details Friday about an operation this week to arrest people facing drug charges.

Since Tuesday, 11 people have been taken into custody, according to a press release.

The alleged drug deliveries occurred during the past two weeks in the areas of Maple and Duke streets and Pine and Princess streets.

No Arrests Yet In Clay Twp. Home-Invasion Killing; Father Still Alive

A 23-year-old man was shot and killed and his father shot and injured in a Clay Township home-invasion shooting Thursday night.

Brett Simmons, 23, died from an apparent gunshot wound, according to county coroner Stephen Diamantoni. An autopsy will be performed Monday morning.

Police have provided few details.

Saturday morning, officials did confirm that no one has been charged. Also, they said, Simmons’ father is alive at an area hospital.

Authorities Return Wilkes-Barre Shooting Suspect To Area

A suspect captured in New York following a shooting in Wilkes-Barre earlier this month has been extradited.

Binghamton police said they arrested Sherman W. Wilborne, 30, on Sept. 2 for giving officers false identification. Once police learned Wilborne’s true identity, they lodged him without bail at Broome County Jail on a fugitive warrant out of Pennsylvania for the shooting.

Wilborne was arraigned in Wilkes-Barre on Friday before Magisterial District Judge Martin Kane and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $250,000 straight cash bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 9 before Kane.

Coming Soon (Again) To The Big Board: Sunoco

Sunoco’s storied name, absent from the New York Stock Exchange since the Philadelphia company was acquired by a Dallas energy firm in 2012, will return to the Big Board this year.

Energy Transfer Partners L.P. (ETP), a Dallas pipeline company that became Sunoco Inc.’s parent company two years ago, announced Thursday night that it will give its recently acquired Texas convenience-store company, Susser Petroleum Partners, a new name that is kind of an old one – Sunoco L.P.

The new Sunoco L.P., which will trade under the ticker symbol SUN, will eventually become the corporate umbrella for ETP’s growing portfolio of fuel stations and convenience stores, including Sunoco Inc. ETP had said it intended to drop its retail assets into the Susser partnership when it announced the $1.8 billion acquisition in April.
