Website Ranks Centre Area Transportation Authority 8th In Nation For Per Capita Usage
STATE COLLEGE, PA — Steven Maria caught a few rays of Wednesday afternoon sunshine while waiting for his ride.
Maria, a 19-year-old Penn State student, sat on a bench along Beaver Avenue in front of the Centre Area Transportation Authority office — the nerve center for one of the nation’s busiest transit systems.
“I use the bus all the time to get home,” he said.
He’s one of the thousands of riders each day who prove that just because State College is a small town, it doesn’t mean it can’t hold its own with a major metropolis.
Old Republic Distillery Plans To Open Tasting Room, Retail Shop In West Manchester Township
Soon, fans of Old Republic Distillery won’t have to travel to Seven Valleys to buy a bottle of its Apple Pie Moonshine or Blackberry Vodka.
The distillery is relocating its tasting room to the York Crossing shopping center in West Manchester Township. It hopes to open in a 1,300-square-foot space in the shopping center by mid-to-late September.
The move is expected to raise Old Republic’s profile and boost sales, said Denise Mathias, 45, who owns the distillery with her brother Bill Mathias, 44.
Old Republic, thought to be the only distillery in York County and the first to open here since Prohibition, has developed a loyal following since launching in March 2013.

Heroin, Handguns Seized During Traffic Stop

Police said they stopped a Lincoln for heavily tinted windows on Market Street early Thursday morning.
During the stop, an odor of marijuana was detected coming from the car that was rapidly shaking side-to-side due to movements inside the vehicle, police said.

‘Main Street Drag’ Cruises Into Collegeville
COLLEGEVILLE, PA — It doesn’t matter if it’s a souped-up ’66 Mustang or a factory stock ’75 Corvette, every car will have a story to tell at the 15th Annual “Main Street Drag” on Sunday.
And you can bet that on the day when Collegeville turns into the horsepower capital of Montgomery County, drawing thousands of gearheads and even casual car buffs into town, all car owners exhibiting their prize metal will be happy to share every last personal historical detail with the crowds.
Many of the gleaming sculptures of automotive grace and symmetry lined up on Main Street from Third to Ninth avenues will be accustomed to the bumper-to-bumper glory.
But some, like Al Brooks’ red ’66 Chevy II Nova SS with black interior, will have been coaxed out of their garages and jump-started into the limelight.

(Updated) Potential Pottstown Airport Operator Works From Limerick
POTTSTOWN, PA — Two proposals for becoming the next fixed base operator of the Pottstown Municipal Airport came in last week and borough council will likely approve the one from the company that already operates out of a nearby airport in Limerick.
Both Fare Share Ltd. of Limerick and Weston Inc. of Barto submitted proposals to succeed TNT Air Inc. as the Pottstown airport’s operator, council learned Wednesday at its committee-of-the-whole meeting.
Fare Share, which runs a pilot school and a charter company at Heritage Field in Limerick, received the borough staff’s recommendation to take over duties at the Pottstown Municipal Airport.
“They put together a pretty strong proposal,” Assistant Borough Manager Erica Weekley told council. “We ranked them first.”
