On Call Monitor – Family Residence

This position functions as the primary day-to-day resource person for the residents.  Enforces House Rules and ensures safe and good order of operations.  Prepares and serves meals in accordance with the posted menu, while ensuring safe food handling and food storage processes are used.  Performs routine custodial work assigned to that shift, which may include: laundry tasks, managing the laundry facility and assisting clients in remembering and implementing house details.  Completion of clerical duties related to direct service including but not limited to: daily census, food supplies and other inventories, room checks, recommend food and other purchases, and log food distribution.  Performs related duties as assigned.

Job/Volunteer Fair – Steel River Playhouse In Pottstown

Steel River Playhouse, is holding a Job and Volunteer Fair on Sunday, July 28th from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Monday, July 29th from 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM.  Interested candidates will have the opportunity to learn about open positions, meet with Steel River’s leadership, and tour the facility.

Paid and stipend positions include Education Coordinator, Music Coordinator, Tech Director, Concessions/Retail Manager, Stage and Music Directors, Production Designers (e.g., sets, costumes, lighting, sound, props, hair and makeup), and Stage Managers. Instructors of music, voice, and acting are also encouraged to apply for future positions that are expected to become available.  Adults and students from middle school age on up can explore a host of volunteer learning and social opportunities in virtually every area of the performing arts center.  High school and college students are also eligible to sign up for internship opportunities to satisfy their volunteer or external learning requirements. Some examples of volunteer opportunities include:

Technical theater (set construction and painting, costuming, lighting and sound operation, props, hair and make-up)

Stage management and backstage run crew

Production Assistants

House management and ushers

Music support, especially piano accompaniment

Riser moves, maintenance and repairs

Administrative support (such as receptionist, phone support, filing, photocopying)

Software and data entry/utilization

Concession and retail sales

Box office

Education support/teacher aides

Event planning and hosting

Fundraising

Marketing and public relations (including social media)

Graphic design

Literary analysis and dramaturgy

Additional interviews may be scheduled at other times for those who are not available during the Job and Volunteer Fair.  Department representatives will also be on hand to meet with volunteer candidates to provide information and answer questions.

Steel River also welcomes area performers to visit during the Job and Volunteer Fair to learn more about Steel River’s mission and facilities.  A variety of audition opportunities and instrumental openings are available for the upcoming season.  Come learn about sharing your talent with the community.

August Living History Sundays At Pottsgrove Manor‏

Pottstown, PA – Step into the past at Pottsgrove Manor and enjoy an afternoon learning about colonial trades and pastimes.

On August 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2013 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, Pottsgrove Manor’s living history volunteers, dressed in colonial period clothing, will be living life the 18th-century way.  Activities will include hearth cooking, needlework, quilting, tape weaving, gunsmithing, hornsmithing, and country dancing.  Visitors can watch, learn, and even join in fun!  Activities will vary from week to week, so call ahead or check Pottsgrove Manor’s webpage at www.montcopa.org/pottsgrovemanor to find out what activities will be offered that day.

A donation of $2.00 per person is suggested for this program.  Guests can also tour the museum’s current exhibit, “Forging a Lifestyle: Ironworking with the Potts’ Family,” during their visit.

The exhibit can also be viewed during a guided tour of Pottsgrove Manor during regular museum hours now through November 4, 2013. Regular museum hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm and Sunday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.  Tours are given on the hour.  The last tour of the day begins at 3:00pm. The site is closed Mondays and major holidays.  Groups of ten or more should pre-register by calling 610-326-4014.

Pittsburgh Planning Commission Hears Of Downtown Demolitions, Plans For New Building Near Target In East Liberty

The city’s planning commission has inched the Pittsburgh Playhouse a step closer to its relocation from Oakland to Downtown.

In a 5-0 vote, commission members approved the demolition of three buildings on Forbes Avenue after receiving assurances from representatives of Point Park University that everything possible would be done to preserve their turn-of-the-century facades.

Also Tuesday, the commission learned of plans for a new six-story office building in East Liberty across the street from the Target department store, the latest in a wave of development in the neighborhood.

While the commission had received letters from two people opposed to the demolition of the Point Park-owned buildings at 320, 322 and 330 Forbes, including the former Honus Wagner sporting goods store, members decided to approve the request based on assurances that efforts would be made to preserve the terra-cotta facades.

Harrisburg Debt Announcement Leaves Public Wanting More

HARRISBURG – State officials generated a full house Wednesday morning with emails hinting at big news related to the city’s financial recovery.

And many the people boosting the typically sparse attendance – Harrisburg residents, reporters, elected and appointed officials – seemed underwhelmed by what they heard at the Municipal Financial Recovery Advisory Committee’s meeting in City Hall in Harrisburg.

Few numbers, no documents, scant detail – all of that is to come, likely by mid-August when debt resolutions deals are filed in court.

Instead, the point was to broadcast an attitude adjustment among stakeholders involved in negotiations to resolve more than $600 million in debt, state-appointed receiver William Lynch said.

Agreement Reached To Sell Harrisburg Incinerator To Lancaster Authority

An agreement has been reached that will allow the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority to purchase the long-troubled Harrisburg incinerator, officials said Wednesday.

Details about the plan — including the sale price — were not disclosed.

At a press conference, Harrisburg Mayor Linda Thompson touted the agreement, months in the making, as a key to bailing out the financially beleaguered city.  “This is the turning point we’ve all been waiting for,” she said.

Limerick Officials Pleased With Developer’s Revised Plans

LIMERICK TOWNSHIP, PA — Two weeks after his revamped plan for a development featuring four-story buildings and higher densities met strong opposition from the township officials, Mark Quigley appears to have found a happy compromise.

“I appreciate you looking at it again,” Supervisor Kara Shuler said after Quigley presented his new plan at the July 16 supervisors’ meeting.

“I have to really commend you for the way you did this,” said supervisors’ Chairman Joseph St. Pedro.  “You listened to us and you went back (and worked on it) and came back and presented to us … I have no problems with this.”

Originally, Quigley presented a development at the corner of Ridge and Swamp pikes consisting almost entirely of townhouses and commercial space.  One of its big draws was that it would link Lewis Road with Swamp Pike.

Guard Changing, Not Mission At Western Berks Regional Police Department

Dressed in blue uniforms, Scott L. Wagner and William S. Schlichter sit across from each other talking about the past, present and future of the Western Berks Regional Police Department.

“As I told Chief Schlichter, I got this agency to where it is now,” said Wagner, 54, the outgoing chief of the department.  “It’s now his turn to take it forward, and I wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

The department, which has provided 24/7 police coverage in Wernersville and Robesonia since 2010, is in transition as Wagner prepares for retirement and Schlichter begins his tenure as the new chief.

During an interview at the department, Wagner and Schlichter said they were excited and ready for their next steps.
