North Carolina Woman Sets Vending Machine On Fire For Taking Her Money

We’ve all probably experienced a vending machine taking our money, and failing to provide our tasty treat selection.  One woman in North Carolina didn’t take the mishap lightly, and decided to retaliate against the machine by setting it on fire.

Debra Jonhnson went H.A.M. on a 7-Up soda machine at a Piggly Wiggly store in New Bern, N.C. last weekend, causing fire fighters to be dispatched to the location.

New Polls Show Pennsylvania A Battleground State

HARRISBURG – Tightening independent polls are giving hope to Republicans in Pennsylvania, although the presidential campaigns show no signs of bringing their candidates or TV ads back to the state.

Instead, Pennsylvania’s highest-profile politicians are finding themselves increasingly busy on the campaign trail, including Gov. Tom Corbett and U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, both Republicans, and former Gov. Ed Rendell, a Democrat.

In State College on Monday night, Toomey made time for a crowd of several dozen at a Centre County Republican Party dinner and told them that a sixth straight win for a Democrat in Pennsylvania’s presidential election is not inevitable.  After all, Pennsylvanians elected himself and Corbett just two years ago and 12 of 19 U.S. House seats are held by Republicans, he said.

Murders, Shootings Up; Reading Police Chief Calls For More Funds

Editor’s note:  You can’t revitalize with high crime.  Glad to see the Chief is being proactive before crime returns to dangerous levels!

The number of homicides and shooting victims in Reading, which had dropped from 2001 to 2009, began to pick up again in the past three years, Police Chief William M. Heim told City Council during budget talks Monday.

Heim said part of the reason for the increase is fewer patrol officers and criminal investigators due to city budget cuts the past three years.

However, he and acting Capt. Madison Winchester said they believe that, with two dozen new officers coming out of training late this year, the crime numbers will start to drop again in 2013.

Dividing the time from 2001 to 2012 into four periods, Heim said major crimes dropped from a high of 7,268 in 2001-03 to 5,984 in 2010-12, although this year isn’t yet over.

National Penn Bank Moving Headquarters To Allentown

Boyertown, PA – National Penn Bancshares Inc., the holding company that operates National Penn Bank, will move its corporate headquarters from Boyertown to Allentown and will build a new facility on Broadcasting Road in Spring Township, according to a company statement released this morning.

The new headquarters will be at Seventh and Hamilton streets in downtown Allentown, a Neighborhood Improvement Zone, and will house about 275 employees. It is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2014.

Philadelphia Eagles Fire Defensive Coordinator Juan Castillo

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid fired defensive coordinator Juan Castillo today, two days after the team blew another fourth-quarter lead, and replaced him with secondary coach Todd Bowles.

The team announced the move a day after Reid said he would “look at everything” following a 26-23 overtime loss to Detroit, when Philadelphia (3-3) couldn’t hold at 10-point lead in the final five minutes of regulation.
