Is University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Top Grossing Hospital?

UPMC‘s Presbyterian/Shadyside hospital is the highest grossing hospital in America, according to a leading hospital industry journal.

UPMC is not so sure.

Becker’s Hospital Review, based in Glencoe, Ill., recently put UPMC Presbyterian/Shadyside first on its “50 Top Grossing Hospitals” list with $10.19 billion in total patient revenue, followed by The Cleveland Clinic at $9.86 billion.

‘Code Red’ Issued For Montgomery County

NORRISTOWN, PA — A has been issued by Montgomery County from noon until 8 p.m. Saturday, July 7.

“A Hot Weather Health Warning is issued in anticipation of an oppressively hot air mass with a heat index of 100 degrees F or greater,” according to a press release from the county.

“We urge all of our residents, especially those most at risk, to please take steps to minimize the effects of the heat, and it is critical that the rest of us check on the elderly and others at risk during this hot weather,” said Josh Shapiro, chairman of the Montgomery County Commissioners.

Unemployment Stuck At 8.2% As Hiring Lags In June

Non-farm payrolls expanded by just 80,000 jobs in June, falling short of forecasts

U.S. employers hired at a dismal pace in June, raising pressure on the Federal Reserve to do more to boost the economy and further imperiling President Barack Obama‘s chances of reelection in November.

The Labor Department said on Friday non-farm payrolls expanded by just 80,000 jobs in June, falling short of forecasts though a tad higher than a revised May reading of 77,000.

Job creation during the month wasn’t enough to bring down the country’s lofty 8.2 percent unemployment rate. The report appeared sure to fuel concerns that Europe’s debt crisis is shifting the U.S. economy into low gear.

Audit: Allentown Posts Deficit As Fund Balance Drops In 2011

Another year of rising pension costs and flat revenues in 2011 forced Allentown to tap into what’s turned out to be not such an endless well.

Faced with a deficit for the fourth year in a row, the city dipped a bit farther into its shrinking general fund, spending more than $12 million in the last five years.

The general fund is the city’s primary operating account. It’s used to collect most revenues, pay out most expenses, like public safety and public works, and carry over undesignated and unspent money into the following year.

Now, Allentown is faced with its smallest fund balance in years — $1.9 million — and city officials aren’t ruling anything out if faced with a fifth year of deficit — not tax increases, not the sale of city property or any other solutions.

Lancaster City To Cite Building Owners For Not Completing Repairs

For the second time in a year, debris fell from the same downtown building onto the sidewalk below.

Lancaster city now is moving to cite the building’s owners, who did not complete a required engineering report after a 2-by-4-foot concrete panel fell July 19 from the building at 51-55 N. Queen St.

In the latest incident, chunks of mortar fell from the building between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday. The sidewalk in front of the building was blocked off with barricades.

Nobody was hurt in either incident.
