Rumble Draws Crowds From All Over To Pottstown

POTTSTOWN, PA — For those who love volleyball, it just doesn’t get any bigger or better than the annual Pottstown Rumble.

Players and fans from across the country and beyond have been flocking to Memorial Park for two decades to play against the best or watch the best battling it out in the Pottstown Volleyball Rumble.

The Rumble in late June has become as much a Pottstown tradition as the spectacular fireworks exploding above Memorial Park on the Fourth of July.

And this year will be no different. Except it will truly be even bigger and better yet with newly added attractions.

With today’s announcement, Geisinger commits to an $80 million facility expansion of GCMC, $25.7 million to construct a new physician office building in Scranton and a $20 million project already under way to upgrade the hospital’s information technology system.

When Deepti Alampally moved here from India four years ago, she didn’t have to explain where she was going.

“Everyone back home knows about Pittsburgh,” Ms. Alampally said.

She said Pittsburgh is famous among Hindus because its three rivers make it a holy city in the religion. It’s fitting, then, that Pittsburgh is home to nearly 15,000 South Asians, according to 2010 Census data. In total, nearly 50,000 Asians and Asian-Americans live in the Pittsburgh metro area — making them the second-largest minority group after African-Americans, and ahead of Hispanics.

That puts Pittsburgh right in line with the national trend, according to a Pew Research Center report released Tuesday.

19th Annual Centre Park Garden Tour (Reading)

This year, when you wander through the gardens of the Centre Park Historic District’s garden tour, you’ll get more than just a taste of the eclectic plots of green. You’ll also get a taste of some of Reading’s eclectic restaurants.

And some wine. And music.

This year, as the historic district celebrates it 30th anniversary (and the 19th garden tour), organizers opted to transform the tour with things that will enhance the experience.

“It stemmed from a few things,” said Beth Ireland, vice president and marketing chairwoman for the district. “We’ve had some years where the garden tour went great, and then it would dwindle. There were even some years when we didn’t have it. We were kind of in that place again because there are other garden tours in the area. So we thought we’d offer the tour with wine and music – the whole shebang.”
