3rd Annual Soup Bowl Fundraiser At ArtFusion 19464 In Pottstown

Pottstown, PA – Winter Chill + Warm Soup = Perfection

ArtFusion’s popular fundraiser returns for a third year. The Soup Bowl fundraiser will take place Saturday, January 25 from 11am-1pm at 254 E. High St. in the ArtFusion facility. This year’s event will be even bigger and better than last year, with the Soup Bowl event taking over the entire building. Different soups will be set up on the first floor and also upstairs on the second floor, with more seating to accommodate a lot more soup lovers!

Guests will be able to try an amazing variety of home-cooked soups, created by local volunteer chefs and donated by local restaurants. Lunch will also include bread, beverages and homemade desserts. As a thank you for supporting the fundraiser, each guest will take home a handcrafted ceramic bowl, created by volunteers from the community throughout the previous year.

sb13bEach bowl is an artistic collaboration: one volunteer created the bowl from clay and another added the colorful decorations. Guest artists included Girl Scout troops, high school students, volunteers from local businesses, members of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and more. This event is truly a community effort, from the soups to the bowls.

This event was a sell-out in 2013. 2014 tickets are now available for purchase at ArtFusion’s 254 E. High St. location, and also online at their website http://www.artfusion19464.org The number of tickets is limited, so ArtFusion recommends purchasing your tickets early. ArtFusion will be holding a great beat-the-winter-chill fundraiser on Saturday, January 26 from 11am-1pm at their High St. location.  The Soup Bowl fundraiser debuted last year and is back due to poplar demand. Lunch includes all you can eat soup, bread, beverages and homemade desserts.  Guests can choose their favorite soup—or sample them all. In response to requests from last year’s event, this year soup enthusiasts can also purchase a recipe book so they can make their favorite soups at home.

As a thank you, supporters will take home a handcrafted ceramic bowl created by local volunteers of all ages. Each bowl was created though the combined creativity of two different volunteers.  One created the ceramic bowl and one decorated it with a one-of-a-kind glaze design.

Tickets are only $15 and all proceeds benefit the local non-profit community art center.  Tickets can be purchased online at artfusion19464.org, or at their 254 E. High St. location during regular business hours. There are a limited number of tickets available for this event.  ArtFusion request that those interested in attending purchase their tickets in advance.

January 26 will also mark the beginning of an eyeglass collection campaign for the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 565 and the Second Brigade MC Chapter G – PA.  There is a great need for magnifiers/cheater eyeglasses in all strengths.  Glasses do not need to be new but ArtFusion does ask that they be in good shape (not scratched or broken).  The donated glasses will be given directly to veterans.  After the fundraiser, eyeglasses can be dropped off at ArtFusion during normal business hours through February 28.

A Review Of The Milkman Lunch Co. & Cake Shoppe, Pottstown

Two friends and I paid a visit to the Milkman Lunch Co. & Cake Shoppe this afternoon.  I am instructed to tell you they are my very attractive friends, but I digress :)  Not long after the door closed I forgot I was in Pottstown.  The smell of cake and icing immediately filled our nostrils and we were transported to another place.

The decor and overall ambience immediately makes one feel at home.  My one friend said it makes her feel like she is in her grandmother’s kitchen.  The Milkman is a great place to linger over a leisurely lunch and some good conversation, which is exactly what we did.  I think we spent two hours there.

On a cold blustery day it was the perfect spot for lunch.  It was nice and warm inside and a great respite from the winter weather.  The owner Chris Longeway and Pastry Chef Sam Rhame were very welcoming and friendly.  The intimacy of the space makes you feel like you are visiting a friend’s home.

Today’s special was a Winter Bird Panini for $6.50.  The perfectly grilled sandwich included turkey breast, caramelized onion, tomato and other delicious ingredients.  We all had the special which came with the choice of a side.  Two of us had the pasta salad and one of us had pickles.   The pasta salad was a nice twist with a creamy dressing instead of the usual Italian and included asparagus, white beans, black olives and red bell pepper.  Delicious!

There is always room for dessert!  My companions each had a grilled muffin and I had the Mocha Spice cupcake.  Needless to say, this was a “makes you wanna slap your mama” good lunch!  Not a crumb was left!

I give two Roy’s Rants thumbs up to this little culinary treasure in the heart of Pottstown.

The Milkman is located at 451 North Charlotte Street.  They are right across Oak street from the North End Florist.

Here is a write up from my friend Sue Repko of Positively Pottstown’s blog for some more information: http://positivelyptown.com/2011/06/06/the-milkman-serves-up-light-lunches-and-pretty-cakes/
